The beans were harvested 2 weeks ago. They were weighed and binned yesterday. Yeild was almost 44 bushel per acre.Pretty good for an experment on an unknown(in this area) crop.Learned some things, too.

That is a respectable yield. Now where are you going to be able to sell them? If I remember right you don't have much for options in markets you told us last spring.

Local hog farmer is commited to raiseing/promoteing them in the area. For his use,and to sell locally. To save the high priced frieght, and to have all "locally Grown" feeds. He has purchaced a cooker,an extruder is on line for the future. Next year they hope to have 200 acres grown for them. They expect to increase acres over time. NONGMO beans are being grown,as well as GMO,too. This will be the third year of area beans. The future is bright here for beans.

Around here we have field corn(lots of it). Sweet Corn is huge(Olathe Sweet),onions are slowly fadeing, lots of pinto beans. We lost sugar beets and brew barley(Coors) in the '70s. And lots of hay.Due to my poorer soil, and limited rescourses, corn and hay are my two main crops.Soys are a welcome addition.Sweet corn and onions are something only the BTOs can afford to grow.A couple of guys are expermenting with hemp.

Soys are better than pintos there? Soys in the pintos can be a problem so they usually don't mix on the same farm.

44 bushels/acre is a respectable yield, especially as first time crop. I'll take that year in, year out as an average. We had lots of yields in the 50's this year, but other years have seen 30's too. Bet next year will be better for you as you fine tune the process.

How were the corn yields in your area as a comparison? Costs a lot more to grow corn, though. Your beans did better than mine....should not have listened to the salesman, short season beans don't yield with no rain in June. E SD.

Corn yields are the same as normal. The best farmers on the best ground get 225 to 250,some even beat that. I'never even got close to 200. 150 would be an execeptional yield for me. I dont grow pintos,so no issue there.Maybe I should start.Pintos take a lot of specialized harvesting equipment.'Cutters'/pullers,rod weeder, windrower,,bean combine.Rain fall is a non issue here.We are 100% dependent on irrigation. So rain isnt needed,it barely does anyway.
