Finally got some Land to farm of my own for
next year. Got down to the last round and
finishing the ends and this. If this wasn't
Sid there would have been no chance yet. But
I'll get it done.

Stuck in the mud. You can tell from the shine on the dirt it's very wet. That spot has water sitting. I wouldn't have gotten stuck except the tractor fell into a furrow right at the wrong time.

Dude!!! Duals!!! I leave mine on the 1586 year around (cause I is lazy and they is heavy). I call her "the bobber" because it floats thru the wet low spots. That is, as long as I don't try to drag a plow thru it! Even then, I don't push my luck but drive around the wet spots most times. Former tenant buried his FWD Ford tractor back in one of my fields pulling a folding drill. Twice the size of my 1586. Took a tractor twice the size of the Ford to get it out and that was after they broke one log chain. When they was done the ruts were so wide and deep I considered stocking them with trout.

OMG! Really? I can't tell you what is behind that tractor even on the big screen here in the office so the response was pretty much a commentary on the tractor and the mud. You are correct, I have an on-land moldboard I hook on to but I would never try to drag it thru ground as wet as what's in the picture. I guess I could change it to "dude...duals and a chisel!" Even then I would think about waiting until it dried out some.

It is pointless to drag a chisil plow through ground that wet. You need drier ground that will shatter when chiselplowing. All they will do in that ground is trowel a trench, which will hold water. Deep tillage is an option but pulling that type of equipment in those conditions is compromized also. Best program is drainage tile, but that all takes time and money, so for the meantime Jon will have to do what he has time and money to do.

The very worst fall plowing no matter how wet and chunky is still better than the best spring plowing in that part of the world. Mother nature will work wonders on that field this winter with the many freeze thaw cycles it will see. Turning sod in the spring and working it into a seed bed is hard to do at best.

Well Scooby. at least you is havin' phun ! Around here, no field to plow, but some wetlands to avoid when walking. ;^)

Green plow.

A poor job in fall in my state beats a good job in spring. For sure.

We do what we can when we can up here, there is no sitting around waiting. Seasons change fast, and are unforgiving. I've planted corn when there are still pockets of frost in the ground, I've planted oats when I've scraped in snow on the edge of the field with the outer openers. We plow when it goes, even if it doesn't go too well.

Wife said it was getting stocky the last 2 rounds with the chisel plow this evening, but that is a small spot it will go better in another round for her.. I have one field not sure what to do, it was so wet we threw mud on the tractor with the stalk chopper, don't know that the chisel plow will accomplish anything there, might have to get the real plow out for that.

The news this afternoon said in 122 years of record keeping, 2016 is the second wettest on record. We have had a -lot- of rain this year.....

Guess it takes a strong man to post his mistakes and listen to the comments from his friends.

Yeah, you guys were getting it while we were dry here. Strange year. You got your wife chiseling? Haven't worked mine up to that yet! Good work!

Most people chisel when it is too wet to properly do the work and don't realize how much compaction they are doing.

If that left side dual was on, and if the tractor has differential lock, it might have gotten through......
.no guarantees tho! Our fields still have wet areas, but not like it was a month ago. Lots of weeping on side hills yet, while the lower area tiles are working. Luckily, we haven"t had rain for a month. Silo filling time was pretty miserable. HR NW of Metro.
