Steam Sawbench

Just spent a few days at a Model Engineering Exhibition, running a 1/2 size saw bench with my 1/3 size steam engine. Made it sweat because the logs were full size.Sorry about the duplicate picture, I have a new tablet and some aspects of it are still a mystery!

...but shouldn't your coffee cup be 1/3 size too. All kidding aside, that is one nice steam engine. Thanks for the pix.

I drink tea every morning. Of course Mama was British and worked in the London Central Telephone Exchange during the war.
Did you build your engine?
Richard in NW SC

Yes, I built it all myself from a set of drawings. I taught myself how to make patterns in wood, then a local foundry made the castings for me and I learned how to machine them. I am not a machinist, I worked for the phone company and am an expert with a ballpoint pen and desk! Made lots of parts twice, took me 11 years. The boiler was made by a professional, I am not a licensed welder, which I have to be to get insurance.

My wife refers to it as a toy, it weighs about 1700pounds. She also maintains that mentally I am only 12 years old, but I guess that most of the gentlemen on this forum fit that description!!

That's a beautiful machine. Do you need a boiler license to run and have the boiler inspected and certified?

Yes, the boiler is inspected by a licensed inspector every year. Without his signature, I cannot get insurance and so cannot display it. A dead engine is no fun, like a dead tractor.

NO NO don't admit it ..... but yes we are all 12 years old. Don't ever let the wives know for certain. Let 'em just suspect.
