I bought this McCormick Deering sickle sharpener last Saturday at the tractor show for $30. Just wondering what year range it is and if someone might have a manual for it. Neat looking tool, it all works and ready to use.

Also I noticed that most of these I've looked at say "McCormick Deering Chicago USA" on the front above the stone. However mine just says "McCormick Chicago USA" Is mine a different model or time period since it just has McCormick??

The McCormick-Deering ones are from 1923 to 1948. The McCormick ones are either from outside USA or predate 1923 when IHC decided to use the McCormick-Deering trade-name in the USA.

I cranked one of those a lot when Dad sharpened sickles, because we didn't get electricity until 1950. Looks all you need is a "V" shaped stone and you would be in business.

You can watch Ebay for a manual. Without the stone it's worthless except as art. I don't know where you'd find a stone for it. I looked several years back and couldn't find one that would fit one of mine anywhere.

I have one of those stones hanging on the wall of one of the buildings I own. It has been there for over 2 decades maybe 3. Odd V shaped stone and would you believe it is pink in color

For display one can mount them on a mower wheel which was the original idea. They are not much use for anything else today.
