2840 jd trans oil hyd oil

This tractor is new to me, belongs to neighbor. I am replacing the load control shaft and bushings. Want to change oil and filter at same time. Do I have to drain both the trans and rearend to be able to change filter. I drained the rearend (plug right by load control shaft) there is another plug up by filter housing, do I need to drain this also and is it the same oil? Both filled up behind the seat? Thanks for your help, Bob

yes they both use the same fluid while you have it out good idea to change the filter and check the screen. It's best to use the JD fluid a little more expensive but worth it in the long run.
