trailer winch?

I'm looking to get a winch for my gooseneck trailer about a 10000 lb. or 12000 lb. to pull on tractors or equipment if needed. What pros and cons should I look for in one and what brand should I look at.

Thanks,

You hook the cable back by the winch then hook the block to the item being winched.
Get a winch with a release to run the cable out and a remote control to operate the winch.

A snatch block can be worth it's weight in gold. You can double it back to the winch, use it to pull a load to one side and pull something around a corner by fixing it to an anchor.
I changed a flat on my trailer one time, using the snatch block hooked to a sign post on the highway.

Snatch block can also save your butt if the winch decides to cr@p out on you. Had that happen once, hooked the free end of the cable to a small skiid steer, and was able to drag a tractor right up on the deck. Could never have slid it up on the trailer without going over the side without the cable/block setup.

Depending on (A) How much battery you have (B) If you will EVER operate it above half capacity for more than a few minutes continusly, look at "series wound" vs "perminate magnet." Series wound can operate for long periods but require more amps than magnet motor. Naturally, magnet motor works fine for short periods and require's fewr amps. Superwinch brand is good value. Warn make's the widest choice, cost's a premium, work better than most and take's a long time to wear out.

I've used a Harbor Freight 9000 lb winch for over 10 years....I use a snatch block and never run it over 20 seconds on a dead pull.....I let it cool for about a minute and go again..It doesn't owe me a thing..

for a trailer winch I'd go Harbor Freight with the wireless remote unless you need it daily, then I'd go Warn or SuperWinch.

I got a nice Gorilla winch off that auction site and it's worked great.

I traded my trailer for a bigger one yesterday the one I traded for does not have a winch and the guy would not make the trade unless I left my winch on my trailer. I think the one I had was a superwinch 8000, it was a nice winch I had to make a cable tensioner for it. The next one I buy I want a cable tensioner that bolts on and made for the winch.

Next week I will be calling Warn and superwinch to fine one like I want like this.

There are different Winch's for everyone's application and Bank account.

My Trailer has twin 7200 lbs. axels, torsion suspension, eight stud rims, 24' deck, bumper hitch:

I'm totally satisfied with my MADE in the USA Ramsey "PATRIOT"....95000........ (In stalled Snatch block, may use someday)

Series WOUND motor:

Winch Battery is connected with Twist on WELDER COUPLINGS:

It's been worked hard for the past ten years:

Not a minutes trouble:

It's not fancy:

tie the snatch block to the load and run the cable through the block and back to winch and anchor it there to a good anchor.
you are then double lined and can pull twice as much and the line speed is cut in half. the only way for a big heavy load.

about 15 years ago I installed a 9500 lb Warn on my, I have used it a LOT in my line of work,, I can double line easy with one snatch block, I could even double that but have never needed to, I have loaded dead 20,000 tractors up the ramps more than once and zero issues, I agree for occasional use the off brands may be fine,, just telling what I have and if I had to replace it I would again buy Warn
