NEED ANSWERS ASAP!!!!!!!!!!

Guys I put an ad on the yesterdays tractor forum for a 4020 mw turbo kit and a fellow called and said his freind saw my ad and he wants to sell me a brand new mw turbo kit never used for 400 dollars!!!! Is this a scam or what???? Let me know ASAP guys he will be calling after bit to let me know if he excepted my offer for 350 dollars!!!!!!!!!

WHy didn't the friend call you? First thing you say is "I will come look at it and pay you cash if I like it. Odds are it's not available to look at anywhere.

Sad to say, but in this day and age this is most likely a scam. You are falling right into their trap thinking you need to hurry up and buy it. You already know it's a scam in your gut so you have answered your own question. I bet if you tell the seller you have a relative near them that will pick it up you will not hear back from them.

No body will sell one for that kind of money after you offered him less than he was asking. Have the local dealer go buy it for you pay them well or doing it and you will find out its a huge scam when we all know the turbo is worth much more that that.

I calld him back and told him I have a cousin close by that cold come look at it and he said
he was busy at the moment and would cll me back ina little while.

I'd assume it's a scam. Don't let him talk you into sending any money until he agrees to let your cousin take a look at it. He'll never agree to that.

No he won't. That's NOT what he wanted to hear. What he wanted to hear was "where do I send the money". Want ads are best way to find these people.

He also said he had it for sale previuosly on yesterdays tractor but no one would buy it!! I think it is probably a scam so ill string him along a little longer and seee what I can find out about this this SCAMMER!! scammers should be in jail.

It's always suspicious to me when yo have to travel to the other person, no idea who they are, with lots of cash. I just don't like the idea. Unless you agree to meet inside the bank, or inside the police station.

If he still keeps on you about it, but and since you probably don't actually have a "nearby cousin", maybe you do, but you can ask him to send very detailed pictures. As in, one of the whole kit, one of each piece, inside the exhaust housing, exhaust drive wheel, compressor wheel, stuff like that. Ask him to draw a lether or number on the exhaust housing with a paint marker, and make sure it is in the pics he sends you. If he isn't a scammer, he should have no problem doing this, and should understand why you are being cautious.

Why are you seeking advice about whether or not this is a scam? Nobody here knows for sure, yet you're willing to act--ASAP!--on whatever the consensus might be. On the other hand, you've been advised by the most knowledgeable members of this board that you will be making a mistake to put a turbo on this tractor--advice you have apparently chosen to ignore. I predict you won't be seeing any more responses from these guys.

Id like to ask you if you have or someone you know has pt a turbo on their 4020 and had huge problems? If it was so bad then why do so many people do it? Im not trying to be an a$$ about it im just wondering if you hve actully experianced or know someone who has had big problems with the setup? im not trying to gain max horse just add a turbo and be happy with what horsepower it will add. Im not going to touch the pump at all. Iv heard some experianced mechanics say they have never had problems at all with turned up 4020s.

In this day and age, just about everybody has access to email and/or a smart phone.
Have him take a picture of what he is trying to sell and email it to you. Odds are, he won't and will have a dozen reasons why he can't.

In this day and age, everybody has access to a smart phone or a digital camera. If he can't email you a photo of what he has for sale, it's a scam.
Also, what's the situation that this is an ASAP?

First, calm down a little, no need to get excited and go crazy over a tractor. (I know, its not easy to do sometimes.) Now, you posted an ad, and got a response. The guy CALLED, and you spoke to him, so unless he doesn't have a Indian accent, its at a minimum believable. Then you come on here, wanting and ASAP response about whether or not the guy is legit, and now he hasn't called you back. You've ticked him off, don't expect another respnce from him.

I would have to say something isn't quite right. The kits are a much more expensive. I have read your previous posts about turbo and paint. Is this the first tractor you are fixing up to sell ? Making money on tractors can be tough. If you totally go through the tractor you probably wont get all your costs back out of it as far as parts and labor. I know this was already talked about but I am just sayin. If it were me I wouldnt turbo it. 4020's were a good tractor when they came out of the factory and finding someone who wants one with a turbo might be more difficult. I am not against turbos. Our 1750 Oliver has one on it but also has an updated engine overhaul an oil cooler ect. Like the bigger Oliver's had.

I most likely had the same fellow contact me a while back about some wanted parts. If he is from California, wants you to wire him the money then RUN don't walk away.

im getting totally lost with this 4020 and all these idea's about turbo's . are you farming with it ? selling it? what is all this panic? im sure that tractor has all the power you need as it is, not yet giving stories about overhauling the engine and dont know what platiguage is used for nor worn out engine symptoms.do you know anything about bodywork and paint? lots more to it than filling a sprayer and going to it. many people will not even buy machines painted in the backyard. me included. that totally devalues the machine. so fix what u can , use it, sell it , or just admire it.

I know absolutely nothing about a 4020 or its turbo, but JDSeller said adding a turbo to a 4020 that didn't come with one is a bad idea. If JDSeller says a duck dips snuff, you can look under his wing for the can.

Simple.Ask him where he is located. He'll tell you some made up location. Then say "hey,I have a friend that lives right near there, can he come over and look at it?"
The phone will usually go dead on the other end OR he will make up some other BS story, why you can't see it.
Scam.

"The offer was too good to be true so I offered him less!"

If it's a scam he'll probably say yes, if it's legit, you very well may have insulted him.
