Muzzleloader season about the same as last year. Wet, wet, wet. Probably have to build a dadgum raft to get to the tree stands by this afternoon! Won't have to climb into them, just swim to them! Lol!

At least there seems to be a few deer around this year. Had any luck yet?

Seems that every year lately muzzleloading season is wet and windy. On the other hand, seeing that my well went dry on August 2nd and I still don't have a drop of water in it, I can use the rain more than I can use the venison. Got woke up at daybreak by the fellers that hunt the land next to me pulling in to run the corners behind my house, but I haven't heard any shooting and I'm betting they'll give up soon--it's downright nasty out there. Haven't seen NEAR the deer around this year as usual, and I know they switched DMU 6J's muzzleloading season from either-sekks to antlered-only at the last minute, so obviously I'm not the only one to notice it.

How deep is the well? Dug or drilled? The poorest well we have here is the one under Marc's house. That one is around 20 feet. It will not stand up to a family of four when everyone starts taking showers. It will always recover though. He really needs a water line from the shop well to his well under the house.

Dug--about 12 feet. Put it in the first winter I was here (99/00) to replace the point that was here. Wanted to go deeper but lost some depth when the ground around it started caving in while putting the stone in, so had to be happy with what I had. It goes dry every 2-3 years, but usually only for a few weeks in the late summer/early fall, so I've learned to live with it, especially as it's just me here and I can do laundry elsewhere and haul enough water in to get me by. I've got a couple 55-gallon drums in the basement that I keep full and can switch on to them quickly--two quarter-turn valves--one off and one on--if necessary.
