When on level ground I am able to raise and lower both blades. When headed on a downhill slope the blades will lower but will not raise, or raise very slowly. Is there an adjustment that I can make on the hydraulic linkage that will improve the downhill operations?

What tractor it is?? There are some adjustments on some tha tif not set up right can cause odd problems but not know if it is a B/C or a D-17 it is hard to help you help your self

Sounds like you are low on oil. As others have said, overfill your gear box by a quart and see if that helps.

Sorry guys, it is a C. After re-reading the manual and making the necessary adjustments to the linkage I was able to fix the problem. Thanks for your input!

Fill the transmission which is the hydraulic reservoir. The pump is in the back and when you go down hill the oil runs to the front and the pump sucks air. I have had the same problem as my belt pulley seal leaks a little and every few years I have to add a bit, too lazy to change the seal so far. I use "tractor lube", a combination hydraulic and transmission oil. You don't want to use 80/90 gear oil, it is too thick for the hydraulic system. The filler/level plug is on the left side of the transmission. If you are talking an extreme down hill grade you man not be able to put enough in without overfilling.
