Ford 134 industrial engine

(quoted from post at 15:44:09 10/19/16)
Are you sure that it will turn a full turn backwards?

I can turn it backwards all day , took the oil pan off everything seems to be moving took the distributor out. It freezes up when it should be turning in firing rotation

A cam timing chain that is worn to a frazzle can lock up going "normal" but catch when backing due to sharp edges. (I do not know the engine or series of that
engine) worn cam gear or teeth missing or partially broken will also lock up. A broken cam shaft could do it if the break was diagonal, Is it attached to
anything!!!??? Jim

Where is the timing chain located? Do you know what is. Behind the flywheel? And the marks on the timing gears are lined up correctly

No timing chain if it has gears. Rotate it enough to see if teeth are missing from those gears. If the engine is of the design that can crash valves into
pistons, a loose cam drive hub could allow interference. Jim

I have the motor 75% torn apart should i just take off the head and go from there? To see what's going on

Have you got the engine out? If still installed could be something down in the bell housing, or whatever the engine drives is stopping it.

Look behind the cam gear, there may be a couple of bolts that hold the thrust washer to the block. One of the bolts could have backed out, fell behind the gear.

Be interesting how this plays out, please let us know!

Removed the valve cover push rods and all valves are moving like they should be when i turn it backwards but they lock up when i turn it forward

removed all of the belt assemblies on the rear of the motor to where you can see the flywheel, is there anything behind the flywheel that could stop it from moving? Tried to remove flywheel but cant get it out of the bell housing to see what is behind it if there is anything????

Its a ford 134 industrial engine on a 1469 self propelled hay bine. With belt drive system on it. It just locked up...quit running had 65lb of oil pressure and just quit.

"They lock up" is indicating that the slack goes out of all of the push rods when you turn it forward. Is this really the case? There should be nothing behind the flywheel except the block. "Removed belt assemblies.... to where you can see flywheel" indicates that there is no bell housing. But you say that you cannot get flywheel out of the bell housing. Which is it? Is there an opening in a bell housing nearly big enough to get the flywheel out? Is there a clutch also in a bell housing?

Removed the head, pushrods can see the cam or pistons any position that I put the pistons in it still only moves 1/2 inch then freezes up. Backwards is still free
