Friday morning at 7 AM I left for Newton,KS which is 200 miles away...I arrived there at 6:30 PM
after driving 504 miles taking lots of pictures..It was very cloudy and drizzly all morning but the
sun finally came out in the afternoon.The first pictures are a little dark..
1-Grain elevator at Overbook,KS..
2&3-Two large abandoned schools in Eskridge,KS.
4-About all thats left of Hessdale,KS is this plaque and a few houses..
5-The old bank at Parkerville,KS..
6&7-Oil Pull and combines at the Alta Vista,KS museum....Theres much
to see here...They give a phone number to call for tours..So far I've never had time..
8-9&10-Old house,church,and grain elevator at Skiddy,KS..
11-Old grain elevator at Antelope,KS..At last we have the sun..
12-On the Marion Res. dam looking northwest..
13-The newly planted wheat looks good south of Canada,KS..
14-A S77 Gleaner sits with a full hopper of beans west of Aulne,KS...
The beans are great in KS but only 5-10% are done..
15-A field of sunflowers near Aulne,KS..
16-The old Aulne State Bank..
17-A church in Aulne,KS..
18-19&20-The old Drinkwater and Schriver Mill on the Cottonwood River in Cedar Point,KS...
A grassroots effort is trying to save it..It once was about to fall in the river..
21-The old abandoned school at Cedar Point..Dwindling rural populations have closed many schools
in Kansas and led to consolidation..
22-An old abandoned store in Clements,KS..
23&24--The historic rock arched bridge across the Cottonwood River
at Clements,KS..Built in 1886..
25-The old one room school at Homestead,KS...It had both the boys and
girls out houses..
26-The old one room school at Wonsevu,KS..
27-The church at Wonsevu,KS open 1911-2003..
28&29--Open range between Wonsevu and Matfield Green..No people,some cows,and plenty of
bluestem for miles..
30-Going under the RR tracks in to Matfield Green..
31-Cassoday,KS "Prairie Chicken Capitol Of The World"..
