Deere 329 engine no start when hot.

I just posted a long description of the problems with my newly overhauled 329 Deere engine on the John Deere page of this forum. If anyone has any idea where to start or what else to try please post. If you have any questions I will try to ask them thru out the day. Thanks for the help. Tom

Generally a Deere engine with a Roosa Master injection pump that will not start when hot has a badly worn injection pump. Rod.

I know that. I just took the pump to a diesel shop expecting to put a new head and rotor in it. He put it on the test stand and it tested perfect. The pump had been rebuilt by a friend who did not have a test stand so I took it to a diesel shop and he found nothing. Tom

It was overhauled right before we installed it this fall. The head was sent to a shop that works on mainly Deere tractors and they put what ever was needed to make sure it was right. They are very particular about getting the valves right as that is very important on a Deere. It cranks slow when hot like it has a load and I have tried two different starters. When I get time to pull the injectors (they were new) I want to check the valve adjustment again. Unless we get lots of rain I guess I will wait until after beans are finished to work on it anymore. Sounds like it has a parasitic load on it causing it to turn over too slowly when hot. Check for a hydraulic load on it. If you can, try to eliminate the engine loads and see if the engine will start hot then.

Which starter is on that engine ? There is a 4KW Bosch option for cold weather 12V starting on the six cylinder Dubuque.
Can't recall which one but there is a large Delco starter that will bolt on . The two bolt starter mount limits the choices in starters .
Here is some advice that will tell all but nobody in 12 years here has ever done. Measure the voltage between the starters' cast body and the starter's positive post while cranking. The voltage is probably low , 10 volts is absolute minimum. 11Volts will provide 121% more cranking power than 10V.

My guess is that the valves do not have enough clearance. When the engine is cold the clearance is enough to let the valves close but when the engine is warm the valves expand and then stay open. Just a guess and some experiences from my lack of mechanical skills.
