Kubota L3240 HST Transmission

I know, Kubota isn't exactly a "Yesterday's Tractor", but need help anyway...

Have a friend in Goliad that is giving me his L3240 Kubota with a 3 range HST hydrostatic transmission. There is an issue with the tractor's transmission....it will move a little, but wont move like it should..it makes a rattling/clicking noise, almost like sheetmetal getting hit by a rotating "something". Replaced the filter and fluids, but it didn't help.

How hard is it to work on these transmissions, how much to get repaired or how much to replace it with a gear type?

Any suggestions on repair?

Thanks,
Ross

Sounds to me like the center hub has came out of the clutch. Have to split the tractor to be for sure.

I'm not real familiar with these transmissions, at all. It almost sounds like when my old Chevy's throw-out bearing was bad... kind of like the drive shaft hitting the arm of the throw-out bearing...that kind of noise. You think it could be something like that?

Thanks,
Ross

You may want to go to Orange Tractor Talk and ask this also if no one here can help. There
are several guys on there that work for Kubota. I do know from what they said that if you use
oil other Than Kubota in the HST trans you will have all kinds of problems. I think there are
2 filters on the HST. Mine is a gear with shuttle shift and it has one filter. Good Luck amd
enjoy your new tractor

The 40 series are electronically managed hydros but it sounds
like a mechanical problem. They have a dry clutch, 3 speed
range transmission and the hydro unit. They split like any
other tractor and are pretty easy to work on.
