So much for that........

I believe I mentioned on another thread a few days ago that there was a clean, straight Farmall H on an auction yesterday. I checked it out and found the engine healthy, but there was a very slight growl in the transmission. The rear tires were good, but did show some weathering with no cracks. Paint was original, but nothing to jump up and down about. I wasn't able to attend the auction so I left a max bid of $2,000 with the auctioneer. (I've known the auctioneer for years, and his dad had several auctions for us over the years).

I talked with the auctioneer last evening. He said it started at $1,000, blew right past $2,000 and sold for $2,500. Guess somebody else wanted it more than I did.

2K or more for an H? Heck I should start buying em here and taking them to you area to resell! Bare bone H here in decent condition is an 8-900 dollar tractor!

My bid was a maximum bid. Had the tractor sold for less, the auctioneer would have charged me only what it took to buy it, same as EBay. Typically, a tractor like that would sell for around $1200 to $1500 around here and that's what I was hoping to buy it for. But, given the unpredictability of auctions............

Sometime people go nuts at auctions, or they don't have any idea what the market is for an item.

Thanks for letting us know the results! I was wondering what the outcome was! I was at another auction last Thursday and everything seemed to sell for good money on that sale too. (Along with the one I was at the Saturday before) It kind of surprised me with the price of livestock and grain being down and the election coming up this fall.

Really? Here an H or an M won't bring much on the west side of the state, haven't for years. Story of 2 M and an H. M, WFE, power steering, nice paint, new tires around, loader, chains and Cornhusker 3 point, ran good guy started asking 2400, sold it 6 months later for 1500. Another M, WFE, all hydraulic loader, good tires, bout 80%, good paint ran good. 1200 at auction. H, WFE, loader, good paint, tire about 90%, chains, add on 3 point, that one brought 1200 too. Here the farms are running about 1000 acres of a little more so they are not viable tractors for the farmers. The "land owners" with their 10 acres are not interested in something that big and I think the collectors that want one have one. Now a beat up Ford N with 50% tires, cobbled up wiring and poor paint will bring 1500 all day! I'm just east of Fergus Falls about 25 miles. A newer utility will bring even more. It's the "land barons" who keep the prices up!
