Ford NAA distributor cap question

I have a Ford NAA and it stopped running. It started to miss badly and eventually just stopped running. I am now unable to start it. I t does not have any spark. There seems to be a grinding noise under the distributor cap. I removed the cap and was surprise to find that there was no visible rotor. The cap has a square opening in it for the distributor shaft to fit in and it is sealed. It seems that the rotor is contained in the cap and there is no way to remove it but to replace the whole unit. Has anyone heard of this? Why would someone buy a unit like this? I can see the points and condenser that looks normal to me but there is no visible rotor? Thanks for any information anyone can give me on what this is. I assume I should be able to buy a distributor cap and rotor to replace what I have but am confused by this set up.

I think what you have is the dust cover stuck to the bottom of the distributor cap. The cover is a separate piece, try to pull it off the bottom of the cap. The rotor will be inside.

Are you sure that the dust cap that goes between the points-condenser and the rotor isn't stuck in the cap?
Try and see if you can separate them. What should have happened is, you remove the cap, then the rotor and
the clip that was on the rotor shaft and then remove the dust cover. I have seen the dust cover stick to
the cap more than once.

A third on the same theme. Dust cover stuck to cap.
Notice that they mentioned the little metal spring that goes
on the distributor shaft, under the rotor. That same spring
keeps the dust cover from coming off normally.
If you are missing that spring, the rotor doesn't fit tightly.
