battery life

the batteries on my 1466 IH seemed to be losing strength the last month or so, got to be when I wanted to start her I had to put charger on for an hour or so. Went to TSC yesterday and picked up two new Exide 6v batteries. When I pulled the old ones out this morning, I checked the mfg date and install date, they have been in there since 2001, that is 15 years, never had a battery last that long before. They were NAPA batteries, and the new ones are identical with the exception of the label. Wonder if they will last 15 years too.

It must be a cool weather thing...

Down here in the 100+ summer days, it is unheard of to have a battery last that long, at least mine sure don't!

Two years on a battery here in the desert is about the norm, although I did get over 4 years out of the batteries that came with the two vehicles that I bought that were made in Japan. Unfortunately, they don't sell those batteries here in the U.S.

They did well for sure. I'm expecting the 1999 batteries in my 1660 CIH combine to fail every time I go to start but so far they never fail. I think they might be Exide. The CIH batteries in my Magnum made 15 years as well.
Some of you have seen the "Merc" and I am running that on an old six volt battery from the 730 Case tractor that is dated 2002. Co-op label but no idea who builds them.

Years ago your battery would give you a warning it's going out.
Today they don't.
Mine went out Wednesday without any warning or hint.

I had a real old battery that I was nursing, decided to short out, exploded and drenched tractor with acid.

Would have been better to change it.
