Iowa Flooding

Well it looks like we will have our second 1000 year flood in less than 10 years.

The Cedar River basin got hammered with 10-11" of rain last night and it is not done yet. The level at Cedar Rapids is predicted to breach the levees and get into downtown again.

It's rough here with just 3.3 inches of rain over night.

Can't imagine that 6-12 inches down there!

I'm 10 miles from the Iowa border in SE MN. We had 3.5 inchs last night in about 30 minutes. Water took all of my creek fences. That hasn't happened in 15 years. Can't imagine 10 inches.

Waseca MN, which is just NW of MSP, got 14", would assume that will go into the Mississippi

brother in law near elgin Iowa lost all his creek fences couple weeks ago, 3 1/2 inch rain, and had lots of trees wash in where fences were, last nights rain 3 3/4" moved the trees so he can fix the fence, guess it paid for him to wait. he lives near elgin IA, they had just removed most of sandbags from along river earlier in the week.

Hate to say, we have a 5 week dry spell going here in SE PA, which means there is flooding somewhere else. Seems to work that way too often.

Our area had 3 1/2 to 6 inches last nite. June 19, 1983, we had 15 1/2 inches overnight, and by noon the next day. That actually washed a rock the size of a basketball across the field, into a newly dug ditch. Rock was on top of the silt, which half-filled the ditch. Friend of ours by Randall, N of St. Cloud, had a 15 inch rain in the 70s. Pushed the block foundation in on his house.
