'51 farmall h

I went to an auction this past weekend in central MN. Saw this h there. (It came home with me too) It is the straightest h I have ever seen. It was a 1 owner tractor, like new tires on the back and 1 one the front. Carb was rebuilt. Runs like a champ and is really a tight tractor. Even has the original battery box that is in perfect shape. You can still see the dealer sticker on it from when it was sold new. This one will be staying in its "work clothes". I probably paid to much for it, but let's have a little fun! What's it worth in your area. I will post what I paid for it later on this page.

I have a '51 H that's been in the family since 1956. It's getting tired, but I can't recall the engine ever being opened up. It has a nice IH 33A hydraulic tilt loader on it and I'm looking for a healthier H to put the loader on. I'll then restore it and keep it for a toy, although any tractor I own can expect to be put to work.

As to what it's worth? A law of economics says, "Nothing has worth until someone wants it". Looking at the photo ads on this website, most healthy H's are posted for between $1200 and $1800. What they actually sell for is anyone's guess.

There's a very clean, healthy H on an auction this coming Saturday that is in far better shape than either of my two. I won't be able to attend the auction, but I've met with the owner and checked it out. I've known the auctioneer for years, and I'm going to stick my neck out and leave a bid of $2,000 with him. He'll do it like ebay: if it sells for less than two grand and I buy it he'll only charge me what it took to buy it.

I'll probably follow up on this forum.

Sort of like the JD B's and A's there were thousands of them built and they don't bring much more than the tires are worth !
But it's getting harder and harder to find GOOD ones ! So paying extra is worth it. Parts are not cheap !

I'd like to see a pict. of the hour meter. I think our 53 Super C had one and I bought one on E Bay years ago but never used it, other than that I don't remember seeing one besides the proof meters on some of the Super Ms.

Sorry for the confusion! I took a screen shot of the auction bill and the "clutch and engine rebuilt, 6045 hours" if for the tractor above that you can't see.

How do they prove the hours? I have never seen an hour meter on an H unless some body put one on later. Our MD has one and I doubt it works anymore. Also would doubt the reading on it.

We got for $1650. Didn't want to go over $1500, but had to bid one more time. After getting it home, I'm glad we bid that last time. Tractor is even better than we expected it to be!

FWIW, I bought this M a year and a half ago on a retirement auction for $1800. Mechanically it's as good as it looks.

That's a sharp looking M! Hard to beat those lettered series farmalls! We have an M in nice shape but haven't used it much. When we got it a couple years ago, the motor was stuck. Got it freed up and rebuilt it. Has new tires, after market wide front and after market 3 point. We picked that up for $750 plus parts.

Last couple of letter series Farmalls here that I've seen they've had trouble getting 1K not matter how good. Saw a very nice M with an all hydraulic loader bring 1250 and the auctioneer had to work pretty hard to get that. 1650 should have made the seller and auctioneer real happy.

I have a 1950 H that I use w/belly mower. Has good rears,near new frts,still 6v.,good sheet steel,Charlyn P.steering w/uncut hood{res.under the hood} still in work clothes. I wouldfn't let this tractor go for less than $3000 {less the mower}. Not for sale yet.
