STX38 black and yellow deck

I have a black deck STX38 that the deck is in pretty poor condition. I saw a yellow deck on CL and was wondering if they are interchangeable? Will also post on garden tractors

I can tell you this. I work for John Deere Power Products and I work in the service department of welding. There was two versions of the 38" deck....but both are still available from your dealer thru service parts. I actually looked at the raw parts for them today!

The yellow deck is the better one. The spindle bearings can be replaced on the yellow one. The black one you have to replace the whole thing.The spindle, bearings and the housing at one time. It is non repairable, just a unit change out.

The Yellow deck models and the black deck models are very different. The yellow deck is better and older. The black deck would be tough to replace with a yellow deck. The mounting is different and the belt arrangement is different. It could be done but is not a "bolt on" deal.
