This is a bit off topic but I am looking to hire a electrician well versed running rigid conduit, cable pulling and knowledgeable in motor controls.

Mostly industrial type work, primarily work on grain handling equipment, some commercial / light commercial, virtually zero residential work.

I thought someone here or someone they may know may be looking for work, worth a shot!

a lot of knowlegable members here
hopefully one looking or know of some one looking

After WWII, Dad hired a returned vet to wire our farm buildings. He had been trained in the Navy during the war and really knew electricity. Maybe there are some returning vets that learned the trade in the military. I don't know what they teach now, but electricity is still around.

Grain handling? Depending, the NEC might require explosion proof conduit, switches, motors, etc., , which the low-price electrician might not know even about. Depending on what the situation is, You might be better off hiring the most expensive licensed insured electrician you can find.

First help wanted I've seen here also. Having said that, I needed a electrician for a commercial job this year. I got 6 bids, the cheapest worked out to $55 per hour. You might find somebody for 40 or so, but a skilled man that will work for 15 is a unicorn.😎

Good luck. Nobody wants to work. Federal Mogul and Mersen have billboards up around here trying to hire help. They say they get one applicant for every 10 jobs available.

First help wanted post I've seen here. After thinking about it you may be on to something. I don't think you have too many people here that don't or aren't willing to work hard and be dependable and reliable as long as they are treated fairly.

By your site name I would tend to think you know how to do this all yourself. But if like me having trouble getting around like you used to ? Maybe if you could at least find a hard worker you could teach them ?

Too bad you're not around Central MI area. I know guys doing just what you are asking and on $ 1,000,000.00 whole tree chippers/grinders etc. Wiring , hyd. hosing and electronic controls etc. None are making $ 20 per hr. More like $ 15 - $ 18. The MI guys here will know where I'm talkin' about.

Those are called article 500 jobs , Anyone will figure out the boxes and fittings in one day. They are just machined and gasketed surfaces. But your statement makes sense anyhow along the lines of you get what you pay for.

RBnWA, yes that is me...

The low end of my scale is apprentices, I'd take another of those IF the right candidate.

There is a wide range of employees out there, so the payrange is wide too....lol

Sparktrician- I linked an article that kind of answers what you are experiencing. It's 3 pages long.

Around here, licensed, experienced electricians earn average $65.00 per hour. Your top pay is $30.00.
Poke here

Not too many electricians that work for electrical contractors make more than 50 dollars an hour. In southern Ohio the union scale seems to be about 30 for journeymen and 10 for helpers. It all depends where you live.

dr sportster- I'm in Eastern KY. I listing hourly wage for non-union, Licensed and experienced Electricians.

There are a lot of auto supplier jobs open around here. But most are hiring thru temp agencies, and only pay about $10 per hour. A lot of workers left Michigan during the recession, and nobody is coming back. I do know that the Local 58 Electricians have added a lot of apprentices in the last year.

Another factor is that drug testing is mandatory, for insurance reasons.

Greg, look again at what Sparktrician is looking for.

What else do I need to say?

I'll read that tomorrow morning, looks interesting. When you add the benefits I provide, my pay is above local union scale here.

I must have been in the wrong field of work we didn't make 55-60 dollars an hour to build Aircraft, that's with 30-35 years experience. I retired 5 years ago.

Do all you guys think that the $75.00 per hour labor rate at the auto repair shop goes straight to the tech? I owned my own business for $25 years, usually with four employees. Any hourly rate that is charged has to cover way more than what goes to the worker. Workers that want to make the higher rate work first at entry level, then if they prove their worth, the business owner is tickled pink to have a good worker and pays them more. Some times during a downturn or slow time the owner has to reduce his overhead. He can't reduce his employees' pay, and knows that it would be bad for his future to lay certain employees off, so he will probably take a cut in his own pay. Workers who want to make the big bucks start their own businesses.

Although drug testing may help the contractor on insurance rates that is not the reason for drug testing. Union labor is a product that must be sold . Be able to brag about a drug free work force to sell better workers is what it is about.
