Water trough

I am running a line to a trough. It is about 25 feet higher than the current line which is pushing 75 psi. I am running about 200 ft run. What is the smallest line I can run. I am not worried about pressure or volume. There are only a handful of cattle and I will put it on a float.

For low volume, about the smallest practical line would be 1/2". But 3/4" or 1" is more standard size, then you would have the volume for future expansion.

Might do some price comparison, see if there is much difference. I would run it in Pex.

My advice is based upon experience of trenching a new water line to my barn, then do it over 10 years later because of water leaks. Don't buy pipe based on price. My first pipe was low cost purchased at one of the farm stores. My next one came from a plumbing supply store-More expensive but higher quality. This advice came from my well driller. A 3/4" line with 75 PSI will provide lots of water.

I would run 1" and like Steve said, use pex. You might get by with 3/4. I wouldn't even consider 1/2".

Pex has very little uv protection it is
made to be used indoors. If the line
comes up at the ends be sure and cover
it

Unless you are burring it extremely shallow, I would put a 2" (or larger) conduit with sweep 90* bends and put a 200' piece of 3/4 sprinkler line in it. If and when it leaks, you can pull it out and repair or replace easily.
