Wonder if it is too early to sow annual rye grass in central Texas.
We hAve moisture and more rain to come next weekend. I know it is about a month eArly, but wonder how much heat it can stand.
Thanks to all.........Dave
Follow-up on stroke. Can work from 5 to 7 hours some days. Some days not much.. Can type somewhat better. muscle in left eye won't move to focus very well yet, but is getting better. Thank the Lord daily it wasn't worse. Has been 9 weeks now and seems much longer.

I have found that the problem with planting ryegrass this early is that it comes up in a week or so and maybe gets a couple inches high and then the weather turns off real dry and hot in September and it kills. I am in north east Louisiana which probably has yearly average temperatures very similar your area but maybe more average rain fall, right now is a perfect chance to lime and apply P&K so that the nutrients are incorporated before planting.

I would wait as you can still get real hot weather. I have had better lucky with grass fall seeded in Mid to late Sept.

Glad to see/hear your feeling better and hope it keeps getting better too.

Have limed and put 400 lbs acre triple 13 and 200 0026 on first of June and got 2.5 inches rain then quit raining the 6th of june..Just got 3 inches slow rain the last week. Doesn't take much lime here. Guess will wait til end of Sept. and hope we get more rain. Only have 4 acres of yard and can keep a pretty yard all winter and dries up in summer and turns brown..Lots easier to keep nice yard fall thru spring here... Thanks.......Dave

Don't know much about Texas but I live in the same area as JDseller.

I would not hesitate to sow annual rye grass at this time in my area this year, but normally would wait until Sept.

I would wait until the average daily high temp is below 90 degrees. For me in North Arkansas that is usually at least after September 15th. It also depends on if you are preparing a seed bed. If you are you might get by with planting a week or so earlier.

Yepper still too hot. We are having a temp break right now but the weather man says as soon as this low moves off, in about a week we will be back in the 90's.
