Oversize 2 cyl pistons?

Looking at some oversize pistons to put in my 1944 John Deere model A. The tractor had .045 over cast pistons in it as well as the later A4648R rods when I got it and I was thinking of having it bored for .090 high compression pistons. I'm scratching my head though because most places only show std. size pistons for my serial number? (547xxx) Most have them for 584001 and up. One or two places have them .090 over for my serial number range but they are more expensive than the others. What is the difference between the two? Is there any issue using the later pistons?

The plan is to have a later gas head put on when it goes back together in place of the all fuel one. It already had a 71 carb and gas manifold as well as distributor ignition when I bought it.

When they bored our '48 G, they exposed the very edge of a sand hole in the casting. It didn't run very long before that sand hole opened up and flooded the combustion chamber with coolant. Had to take the block to a professional machine shop to get the hole "plugged" and then put it back together again in a shop without heat in the middle of the winter.

You might be better off sticking to what you have, so you don't open yourself up to more troubles.

I think the 90 overs would work with your later head. If the 90 over pistons are aluminum the tractor will vibrate more than it did with the cast iron pistons. You can lay your hand on a JD two cylinder and tell if they have aluminum pistons in them.
