Well I can't post the farm name anylonger (named after a famost revolutionary war general that commanded the continental army) not the female blank running for pres.
Anyway here are pics of the final 2016 oat harvest. Had a good amount of straw where there was no new seeding planted, but where Alfalfa was planted and oats were a cover crop, our deluge of Aug rain caused the Alfalfa to grow as tall as the oats. Rolled only 5 round bales off one of the 22A field up between the woods where I cut firewood and where we tap the trees for maple syrup. The Alfalfa got a heck of a start though, and boy do the beans look really good.

I finished cutting my weedy oats yesterday. Started clipping the straw this morning, but got rained off right after dinner. The wife just checked, she said an inch and a half of rain,so it'll be a day or two before I dare go back out there.

Finished oat harvest here two weeks ago. Drought ravaged crop dried up early. Was a foot, to 18" tall. On a couple of fields I did something I've never done before- let the cutter bar down in the flex position, and used the auto. header height control. I ended up with more straw, and a lot more oats than last year, when they got flooded out.

Boom or bust in our valley Loren.

Corn or beans...if they didn't hit the timing right in the spring with the lack of late spring / summer rain

Those that hit the timing right in the spring...everything looks great

Your beans look beautiful

Until the last 3 weeks of rain....second cutting was thin

Second cut alfalfa sucked here too. Left it grow till it was in full blossom about 5 weeks after first cut. Third cut is far thicker, taller and looking great only starting third week after second was cut.

Weather has been a trial here for me as well . I have 27 acres of grain to combine, and it seems to shower every other day . Next week we are supposed to get a dry stretch so I will swath Monday. Any green stuff that has come up in the grain will dry enough after two days to run right through the combine , and I will get all of my straw . Swathing is one extra job but, straw is money , at least for me .

You are one busy man. You cut a lot of fire wood and finished the oats all in one day! I wish I had half of your energy. Just kidding and glad to see your posts. This is a great State that we live in and very scenic but I hope your great photos don't cause a bunch of those city dwellers to swarm to our area and spoil it for all.
