Kubota Lawnmower

I'm considering buying a Kubota ZTR riding mower. I'd like to hear
comments---plus or minus---regarding these mowers.

I almost traded my dependable Kubota Commercial mower, F2100, in on a used one. The one I was looking at was about 8-10 years old. Don't remember the model but it was a Diesel. After checking into it I found they were having trouble with the transmission on the drive wheels. I guess when working on hills the trans doesn't get enough fluid and some were having problems. Kubota offered a reservoir kit to add extra fluid in some cases. The commercial guys that used them day in and out were having the most problems. Google it is what I did. They made changes on the newer models to correct the problem.
I'm a big fan of Kubota, currently I have two tractors and the mower. But I decided to stay away from their used z-turns. If your thinking new I think you'll be ok. I can't justify the money it cost for the new Diesel z-turn when my old f2100 does just fine even with 3100 hours.

They are good heavy mowers but seem to have a lot of trouble with fuel issues. Don't know if it's because they set all winter. The skid loader has had same issue, but the compact tractor has not. Another issues is the deck gearbox.dads went out at 12 hours and took 6 weeks to get fixed. Have had 2 others go out and both were full of oil. Last year I bought a z930m Deere and it will mow circles around the Kubotas.

I guess I'm puzzled regarding the "deck gearbox". My understanding
is that on the "Z" models, there is no gearbox---just spindles that
are driven by a "V" belt. So the engine's pulley drives the deck
pulleys directly, through a clutch. Please explain the gearbox---

shaft drive from the engine to the deck, gearbox then turns that 90 degrees to drive the belt on the spindles. BIG belt. Wish all my exmark's and toro's had deck belts that big. I have a Kubota 323 that I found cheap, I wanted to try one out. Everything else here is red. The Kubota is the smoothest mower out of all of them. But I don't know about their longevity. Everything else we've had for 20+ years of theirs has been tough though...

Oliverguy---If the mower has a vertical-shaft engine, where

is the need to change the direction of the driving force, via

the gearbox? Could it be that the ZTR I looked at is a new

model---different from what you guys are trying to explain?

By the way, the model I looked at had rear wheels that were about

a third taller than what is pictured above.
I didn't know that Kubota even made a ZTR, until I went to this dealer-ship a distance
from where I live.

Pburg.. I am a little bias. I have been selling Kubotas for 28+ years so I am a little bias. The mower you are looking at is a mower made to compete with the lower class ex-marks or air cooled units. Not a bad unit but not a long life as the diesel units. Here in MY AREA all the folks mowing for a living are either running Diesel Kubotas or Ex=Mark. We do have a John Deer dealer here but their mower support is non existent . That may account for not many folks running the deers . That $5500. to $6900 priced market is very completive that is for sure.

jm.---I appreciate your comments. Sounds like I'll be okay

since I'm just a homeowner with about 3 1/2 acres to mow.

And I'll need to down-size before long. But I just wanted

a mower that would give me satisfaction "on the way out".
