Beware of a message 'from Microsoft' that your computer is being locked up and is infected with a virus that may get into their network. Raoul will take your phone call and tell you t hold a few keys down on your computer. When that doesn't fix it, he will transfer you to a 'level 5 technician'. It will only cost you $199 to do this!!!!

Turn your computer off real quick, and turn it back on in a few minutes. It will be fine, and no more Raoul....

Once when I got that message I quickly pulled the cord. Released the battery stopping the computer.

Happened to me today also. I didn't read the entire message or make the phone call. I just hit the kill button quickly and held it until computer shut down. Turned it back on and it did it's usual startup after an unconventional shutdown.

I was told by an AT&T tech that since the scammer now has your IPS address, you should also power down the modem for 30 seconds or so, thereby changing your IPS address. Just sayin' what the lady told me, so don't tell me I don't know what I'm talking about, 'cause I really don't.

There are programs like Mailwasher Free that allow you to look at your emails without downloading - which I use and I'm not on a "spotters fee".

It also shows the source of the email - which might look something like genuine at best but won't be, and usually links to something obviously dubious..

And allows you to axe such things without downloading them.

YMMV.

Pete, I was looking at a comparison of bullet ballistics when the screen came up and locked me up.It actually had a MS screen, logo and toll free number, and wouldn't let me out. After I told Raoul he was a scammer, he hung up real quick......

Hold down the Ctrl, Alt, and Delete keys. Then slect task manager. This fail safe way to delete unwanted screen or program.
