Do any of you guys know if a person can tee into a tractors frontend loader hydraulic system to install a hydraulically operated grapple. I plan on building my own grapple but unsure how to plumb hydraulic lines. I would install a two way spool valve like you would use on a log splitter to operate the grapple.
Thanks.

I guess I should have mentioned my tractor is a 1960 international b275 and does not have any rear remotes but the tractor does have a front end loader with a crankshaft engine driven hydraulic pump. Is it possible to hook up the hydraulics for the grapple the same as that of a log splitter by using the existing hydraulic pump that runs off the front of the tractors engine crankshaft and run the hoses to a separate log splitter type spool valve? Could you just tee the hoses for the grapple off of that pump? Would the grapple hooked up that way affect the operation of the frontend loader?

No. This tractor has no rear remotes. That's why I was wondering if it he hydraulics could be plumbed off the front end loader hydraulic pump
following the example of a log splitter.

If you plumb the splitter valve in line to the loader controls I don't see why it wouldn't work. I used to have a B-414 with a loader.

I was thinking of the grapple having its own spool valve separate than the spool valve that the loader uses. Would a splitter valve still be
required?

I meant a spool valve like for a log splitter like you were saying.
I would think that would work fine, but I'm no expert.

If I'm hearing you right, you currently have a two spool valve to run the loader.Just plumb/hook up a 3rd spool valve inline with the other valve. Easy. go from 'out' port to 'in' port ,then hook up return.Build a support for the second valve,or use a 'hard' pipe. No additional support will be needed.

I did exactly what Delta Red described to get hydraulics for a grapple claw. It worked fine for many years. A close pipe nipple between the two valve bodies is all it took, along with adding support underneath the new valve.

Well if you have the loader all you need is a valve body with more handles to do more things just like what you see on a back hoe. I have a back hoe on an 8N ford and it has a loader and it has a divertor valve on it so make it so you either have the loader or back hoe but one can also plumb if so you could use both at the same time with more control valves/handles

Taylor Manftg. made a grapple for tractors; called it a "Lil Red". Dunno if they still do. They made forklifts & skidders.

You will find a true 3rd function a one handed operation not a set up that takes two men and a monkey to operate more desirable.
You will find you need to operate the loader and the grapple at the same time to grab a load. Read up on it before you spend your money on a separate system it may be you can upgrade your system to a more efficient enjoyable set up.

You will find you will need a brush guard (a good one) are you WILL damage your tractor using a Grapple.

Make sure its a normally open valve - meaning when you're not diverting flow extending or contracting the grapple cyls, fluid will flow through the valve back into the system.
