Farmall h bull pinion bearings?

I had a bull pinion bearing break. It was a IH 245 (13) ball bearing.. The IH /Case parts website says it should be a st201 bearing. I had some old bearings from a old rearend I salvaged. I have a IH 201 with (13) balls, IH 245 with (13) balls and a IH 245 with (9) balls. The opposite side bull gear was also a IH 245 (13) ball bearing.

Did IH change part numbers or something in the past?

Don't know anything about those numbers, BUT, if you can cross reference the measurements, a tapered roller assembly may be better. HTH

They changed numbers about as many times as they changed their drawers. I believe original were L numbers. An ST 201 would probably be the latest bearing used. Also, they quit putting the IH insignia on the bearing and went to WP (West Pullman, where their bearing factory was) because they sold a lot of bearings to competitors and it would not look good to see an IH bearing in a Deere for instance. No idea who makes them for them now days. The more balls, the higher capacity. Loading grooves toward inside on bull pinion and toward outside on differential bearings.

I went to a power train industrial supply house and got bearings for my H rear and trans for way cheaper than the cost of the dealer. SKS bearings too boot! Axle bearing was $400 something at dealer and was $115 at Car quest, Got it at the supply house for $63!

I had a good ST201 bearing that I put in and it is what is listed on the Case/IH parts website. My concern was that the 245 bearing that I removed had 4 more balls than the ST201 that is called for. Maybe some engineer decided that the 245 bearing with 13 balls instead of 9 balls in the ST201 was over kill.
