1996 Kawasaki Mule - No Start

Have a UTV, will crank over good and when given choke and step on gas, will spin a little faster but not start. Has happened a couple of times. Has plenty of gas, but did notice the seal on the gas cap is cracked and not a complete circle. Is the system supposed to be pressurized. There are holes in the cap, so not thinking it is. any help would be great.

Need to do some basic diagnostics.

Open the air box and give the engine a shot of gas with an oil squirt can. If it tries to fire, there is a fuel problem. Some have a fuel pump, some are gravity flow. All are subject to the carb gumming up if it's been sitting a while.

If that doesn't get it to try to start, pull the plug wire, check for spark. If good spark, check the plug, good to just replace it so you're not chasing a simple problem.

If no spark, check the kill switch and the wiring going to it for any signs of being pinched or shorted to ground.

Mine did the same thing. It is the same year also. On mine the problem was dirt in the carb let the air filter fill with gas. Cleaned the carb and added a new air filter and it ran like a top. There is a drain tube in the bottom of the air filter housing make sure thaat is clear. It has a flat end on it and you have to pinch it to drain

The idle circuit is very restrictive on those machines so the slightest restriction totally cut's fuel flow off. The factory idle jet is about 90 and drilling to 88 make's a big difference. If the engine had always stumbled off idle, that's the problem.

got it running. pulled it up to the shop area and drained all the water out of the tank in the back, so I could tip the back. to the fuel line off the carb and got a trickle of gas when I cranked the engine. took the fuel line off before it goes to the fuel filter and still no gas. tried to syphon and also blow into it to see if it was blocked. Finally put the air nosel from the air compress into the fuel line and gave a light burst of air. Nothing. gave it a little bigger burst and then got a big bubble out of the tank. must have been blocked. hooked all fuel lines back up and it started after cranking a few seconds.
