The original subject was "Which engine should I buy for Troy Bilt tiller".

I put a 10hp B&S on my TroyBilt. Hal

I put a Honda on my Arens in place of the Briggs that came on it. Never been happier with that tiller than after that swap. Briggs was a pile of junk in compparison. Unfortunately Briggs discontinued their dual pulley design, so I couldn't get parts to do rebuild. So went with Honda. Lost reverse as a result. Haven't had the chance to reengineer a reverse. Honda far easier start, runs dependably.

I repowered my cub cadet till with one of those knock offs from harbor freight. The thing runs and starts better then the Briggs and Scrapiron it had.

Put a $99 Harbor Freight Predator on my TBuilt, only thing that did not fit perfectly was the bolt on the end of the crank, fine thread instead of coarse. It replaced a larger Tuecumseh which was a POS. Starts and works great.

if i could afford it id replace it with a Honda engine, my personal best is a honda mower i bought new...in 1985, with one overhaul, that mower is running today , also every other honda powered small machine i have is still running too, that being said my troybilt tiller which has one of the older briggs engines on it is still running too, but has to have a slight snort of fluid to start when its been sitting, warm, it starts right up or same day, it starts right up , ive had tecumseh's that would not start cold, and i had the displeasure of having one on a log splitter that took 3 hours to get running when it was in the single didgets out , i gave that away

I too put a HF Predator on my TroyBilt. As Garret said it fit perfectly except for that one bolt which as I recall is metric. The predator always starts on the first pull and has plenty of power. The only issue I have had if tilling on a steep sidehill the low oil sender will shut it off if it is not overfilled with oil slightly. If it quit right now I would not hesitate to replace it with another. Much better than the original Kohler or Briggs.
