Massey Harris 55 diesel

Just seen a nice 55 diesel for sale, engine free but not running. Am I correct in saying similar Bosch fuel injection pump as Massey 95 super, Case 500 etc and therefor good chance its been stuck and drive sheared off? Assuming this to be the case how do you guys fix this:

1.Do you search for a replacement Bosch pump.
2.Have the damaged one professionally repaired.
3. Get a skilled engineer to make a new shaft.
or
4.Can another type of pump be fitted without too much trouble assuming you werent too concerned about originality.

Any thought welcome.

Hi,the one on our 333 has an American Bosch on it and it never gave us any trouble yet. The engine was seized when we got it but we haven't had to do anything with the pump as of yet. Not really much help to your question but there is certainly a reasonable chance the pump may be fine.

I have done several stuck and repair on the 55 & 44 engines. Most times parts have not been a problem. That engine was used in older 1000 case crawlers and several
junked engines around. Heads are actually harder to find than the injector pumps.

Bill,

Not familiar with the bosch fuel as my 382 and 403

engines use roosa master systems and those I overhaul.

If you need engine hard parts , I have a list of

things that will sub for many parts with modifications .

MH 55s had three different American Bosch pumps, inline APE, PSB rotary with American Bosch governor, and PSB with no built in governor, but with a fuel control arm that was hooked to the gas engine governor on the cam gear. Last one is what my 33 diesel, and dad's 44 Special diesel have. If the PSB ever has a broken plunger have fun finding another head assembly. I've had fun in the past making heads from other tractor makes fit and work..
