how much would pay for a car wash?

I took my Buick to the Chevy dealer for an oil change, $23.83 with coupon. Valvoline oil declo filter. Car wash done by hand was FREE. They also dried it by hand. I like getting a FREE car wash every 3k.

I scheduled service for 8am, there first. It was on my next door to shop at Wal-mart. So while they serviced my car, I walked next door and did a little shopping. While checking out, I got a call car is done, perfect timing

So I really didn't spend time waiting on car to be serviced, I went shopping. I didn't drive out of my way. They checked about 30 things on car and filled all other fluids. I didn't get dirty or over heated. How cool it that?

We bought a new Silverado in 2012. Came with 2 full years of free oil changes. Needless to say, we used all of those free oil changes, but we still have the dealer change the oil every 3,000 miles. They give it a thorough inspection at the same time. The price is still far less than if I bought a filter and oil and did it myself.

I let the dealer service my vehicles when they were under warranty. They fixed a lot of thing free, mostly oil leaks, but a long list of things for the first 5 years.

After learning the dealer is cheaper than the quick oil places. I continue using dealer. Not much more than oil and filter and doing it myself. Not to mention close to Wal-mart. About 1 mile away form tire barn, where every other oil change, tire barn rotate and balance my tires for free.

Rusty It is your car and of course you can do as you please but what does GM recommend for the oil change interval on a 2012 vehicle.? I have never owned a chev since a 1979 pickup but newer fords are 5 to 10 thousand miles on oil change. Are you just taking good car of you car or what does the book recommend? Just curious.

So your dealer changed it for free every 3,000 miles ? Most will only do it at the recommended interval by the maintenance minder. Which those things go 8K to 10K before they say change. Most also have something like a 2 yr.or 24,000 mileage limit.

According to an article in CAR CRAFT magazine a hand car wash scratches your car 24 times more then an automated car wash. The automated car wash has dispersants in the water to glide dirt off the surface.

I buy my gas at a place that gives a .25 discount per gallon if you get a car wash, the wash is 7.00. Automatic type, so if I get 28 gallon wash is free. I drive a Yukon so it holds about35 gallon.

That depends on the car wash. If you go to one that has the brushes they will scratch your car. I only use the ones with the spray wash the car.

I just repaired a car that was at the dealer less than 100 miles ago. They got there cheap oil change deal a state inspection and of course the free car wash.

There daughter dropped off her car for me to service and wanted me to drive her mothers car the complaint was it was almost impossible to drive it above 45MPH it had a steering issue.

The front end was shot the ball joints were seized the brakes were worn out and it had the worst worn out idle control arm on a car I had ever seen it had 72K on the clock... I am not complaining I rebuilt the front end and did a good brake job on it the bill was a little over 1900 :)

MY point: The dealer uses this elcheapo service to real you in how in the world did they miss this gravy much less how did it pass a state safety inspection... The only conclusion I can come up with is how can the guy that did the service be qualified to service a car and do a state safety inspection. Did he not get the memo from his adviser to LOOK for needed services.

This dealer is the worst to fail a car that has any questionable defect I see it all the time. A little crack are moisture in a light lens it fails how did this one get by.

I have a question when you have your car serviced other than a free car wash and change the oil what else do you expect to know about you car other than they claim to do a multi point inspection.

the price I would pay for a car wash would vary greatly , If one of you old fellas were doing the washing , maybe $8.00. Now some cute young Bikini Girls , the price could go up as high as $25-$55.00 . A lot would depend on how much time was spent polishing with a shammie.

Sounds like you have a good dealership there. If I could find one, I might let them do my oil changes. Trouble is, I've yet to find a good one!

I think part of the problem is location. I live near the DFW metromess, which provides an unlimited number of potential customers. They don't feel the need to satisfy any of them! Think extreme greed and incompetence!

Just yesterday, they called my wife, told her the car was ready. Went to pick up her car from the dealer, air bag recall.

It has been sitting on their lot, in the sun, (thank God it didn't hail!) since April 20th.

We were told 3 weeks at the most!

She takes the rent car back, gets dropped off.

They again tried to sell an oil change, tire rotation, front end alignment, multi point inspection... No, no, no, you were told no extra charges for anything!

Waited 45 minutes for them to bring it up front.

It was filthy. They are supposed to wash every car that leaves. Offered to wash it but would take another hour.

I guess I'm being paranoid, but seen too many horror stories! I stay away from dealers at all cost! Only go to the parts department as a last resort!

My car looks great, 12 years old. Been washed at dealer many times. Dealer changed oil for the past 12 years too. Does my truck too. No screw up like some have had at quickie places.

I think the book recommends 6,000 miles. Pretty much everyone around here, no matter the brand, change oil at 3,000 mile intervals.

Mike, my dealer has done that for many years. Actually, the first year is on GM, and they want it done at 3,000. The 2nd year is on the dealer. Just another dealer incentive I guess, but they treat us very good on everything else also.

Spend $6-10 a week, per vehicle. Yes, the dealers wash when serviced. But that is not enough for me. Can't stand a dirty vehicle. Wife's Mercedes SUV gets washed once, sometimes twice a week at $6 a pop at local car wash. Hand wash and dry. Complete inside clean is extra. My truck, a Ford F250 Powerstroke, once a week depending on weather. I'm following my Dad's example. He washed his tractors and equipment every week. And once a month, usually on a Sunday afternoon, he would wash and WAX his tractors.

Dealer recommends 3k. I recommend 3k too.
At 3k my oil is dark. At 4k I'm down half
quart. At 5k I'm down a quarter and half.
Why leave oil in car that is dirty and
breaking down. NOT WORTH IT.

I just had my 2014 chevy pickup serviced at the dealer. 50 bucks and no wash. My wifes Honda crv was just serviced for 75 bucks and no wash.

Our local GM dealer does our truck for about 35-40, including tire rotation and a good wash, with dexos semi-synthetic oil. Our Subaru gets full synthetic 0-20, that's about $75 at the dealer, so I do it myself when I'm home. We run them both at least 6000 miles, that's what the manufacturer recommends, of course the dealer recommends more often, they want the business!

There are two extremes here. Those that don't care or are just plain lazy and those that are trying too hard to oversell.
I took the GF's car to the dealer for a replacement ignition key. $189 plus tax for the key and cutting, $50 more to reflash the computer so that the new key would work. While they were doing that, the mechanic was taking the car apart. I had a FIT!!! They were trying to sell me a license plate light for something like $60 more plus tax. I about hit the roof.
When I take a vehicle to a dealer or any other repair facility, it is for one specific thing. I do NOT appreciate them taking things apart without permission. I maintain our vehicles. I am perfectly capable of that. What I cannot do is to issue a state inspection sticker. I cannot reflash a computer. Otherwise, I spent 30 years professionally fixing other folks' cars.
Bear in mind that those "multi-point" inspections are just a device to sell more service and parts. Follow the money. Also know that many of the franchise outfits pay their "technicians" low wages PLUS COMMISSION. That means that they have a vested interest in selling you repair work - whether you need it or not.

you hope they checked 30 things,...local lube place had my business until my steering started messing up, took it to local garage and found there were couple fittings that had not been getting greased

i go to a local car lot, pretending to looking/buying, then go by the wash rack, said salesmen told me to wash my car before trading in,,,lol

And a high pressure car wash does its own damage. Wipe a wet soapy rag down your arm and then spray your arm with a high pressure wand and get back to us.

I have always changed my own oil and greased as needed and all the routine maintenance that I feel comfortable doing.. In 1994 I bought a new Chevy 1500 Silverado that was loaded. I started working 7-12's 3 days later for 2 months. I have always changed a new vehicles oil real quick, 1000-1500 miles. Because of work schedule I went to a quick lube place one evening on the way home, 2 days later I had a short break at work and for some reason I had a strong feeling I needed to check my oil, it was 1.5 quarts low. In 2001 my wife bought a new Ford F150 Crew Cab, came with free oil changes for LIFE, they also performed a long list of checks, with documentation, one being air filter. When truck got about 40K miles on it my told me her gas mileage had dropped way off. I went out and started poking around, opened up air filter housing and the air filter was extremely clogged. Looked in glove box and pulled out all the sheets of paper from oil changes, air filter box was checked off as "GOOD" on every single one. That's all the reasons I need to keep doing all that I can at home!

Squirt it down with garden hose. Take it out to the freeway to blow dry. Usually dry by 4th gear.

Pay for a car wash, pay? I have a bucket, a brush, some soap a hose, a chamis cloth. I did run the old van through a automatic wash one time. Eight bucks, no way.

Big waste of time and water, only time I spray off my truck is in the winter as NY puts down so much road salt. And I don't waste my well water I go to a car wash facility.

God washes my car and truck for free. I DO use windex on the windows inside/out when they get bad, but I don't regularly worry about the cleanliness of my vehicles. Heck, can't even see the floor mats, dashboard or seats in my truck, there's so much junk on them.

Just washed mine today. Took about 15 mins. so $200 per hr. divided by 1/4 = $50. Just pushing a chain. When I got this unit ('08 Mazda B4000), it had heavy hard water spots all over it. Took it to a guy and paid him accordingly, and only have to wash it when I feel it's dirty. Mostly I give it a squirt with the hose to take the mud splashes off. The guy quit the biz. so I inquired about what product he used (still beads up after 15 mos.) - Autoglym. Just sayin', that a good wax product is worth the effort and $$. ;^)

On the air filter subject. Most filters are a P.I.T.A. arse to check...
When I replace one I write the mileage on the filter box so I don't have to check it every time I service it. Under normal conditions they should be changed every 30K.

Another pet peeve of mine is why don't they put the oil fill spec on the engine somewhere  Its left up to me I paint it near the oil fill cap...

I go thru a paint marker about every month if I have worked on you car for a few years the history of what I have done to it is wrote out somewhere if not every where under the hood.

I leave my mark every were even in places you will never see. If someone claims I did the work I can tell by how the parts are marked.

I am the service writer, the historian/record keeper, the mechanic the parts man the cashier the floor sweeper the accounts receivable/payable/bookkeeper and the one that cleans the bath room... I don't wash cars...

On the local morning news on day, they had a "so called" mechanical expert interview. He said to forget what everyone else has told you. His rule was: 3000 on conventional, 4000 on blend, 5000 on synthetic.

I pay for my oil changes now. No waste to get rid of and the place I take it to I can stand in the shop and watch them do it and they do look it over.

AS far as paying for a wash? Well that depends. Wife and I drove by one years ago now. Big signs "all proceeds" for a kids cancer hospital. They had a large tent set up and were doing the wash inside the tent. The sign also said the wash was being done by dancers from a strip club and the washers were totally nude! I joked with my wife, some guy will get home to an angry wife who will demand "where have you been the last 3 hours?". And the husband replying, "honey, I was getting the car washed........8 times and the line was terrible"!

Something going on in that engine. I have a 5.7 Chevy engine, 87k on the clock. Change oil at 5k and it's almost the same color as the new oil.

depends on how good looking the girls are that are going to wash it, if no girls, i wash all 9 of them myself

I have a 1995 Chevrolet 4X4 1/2 ton that I have been getting free oil changes on it since I bought it new from the dealer. A couple years ago they started offering free car washes if you get an oil change there. I went in to pickup my truck the first time since they offered the free washes and it was all washed and shined up. That's happened every time since. That's what I call good service but for some reason they keep asking me when I'm going to trade my truck in for a new one. Lol

Every now and then, I come across a group of young people hand washing cars. If the young ladies are bikini clad and wet, yeah, I pull over and get my truck washed!
