Ford 2600 diesel losing power

Hello all! I'm new to this forum. I have ordered a lot of parts thru here, but never been on the forum.

Anyway I have a ford 2600 diesel tractor that loses power after getting warmed up good. I did have to replace the head gasket, and I was pretty sure that would fix the problem, but I was wrong, nothing really changed. I have cleaned the fuel tank out, and replaced the fuel filter. I have cleaned the air cleaner out.

There is no smoke at all during this loss or power. Any ideas? I'm going to rebuild the injection pump as soon as my kit gets here.

Any ideas would be appreciated!!

Thanks,
Jeff

Always check the easy and cheap stuff first. When it
looses power, try opening the fuel fill cap. Is there a
vacuum? That could cause a loss of power. You've
already covered fuel and air filters...

I have tried taking the fuel cap off, but it doesn't seem to help. I have noticed that something in the govenor doesn't seem quite right. When I throttle up, it takes a bit for the tractor to respond, and the same thing when I throttle down. Maybe something is gummed up in there? I will tear into that whenever I get the kit. I'm really hopping it's not a bearing or hydraulic issue. Just need a point in the right direction.

Thanks for the reply

I think you're on the right track with the governor.

When you full throttle it unloaded, does the RPM come up to full rated speed?

That it does not produce black smoke says the governor is not fully responding. Could be just gummed up linkage.

How are you going to determine if your injection pump is doing what it needs to do, without running it on a test bench?

The fuel line on one of my Fords got nearly blocked, causing a severe reduction in power. When you had the filter off did you check the flow to the filter? Mine would run strong for about twenty seconds then slow to a fast drip.

Steve, the tractor does come up to full throttle, but it takes a second after I pull the throttle all the way to do so. Same thing when I throttle back down....this is why I suspect the govenor is gummed up. I'm still a little stumped as to why it loses power though. When I first start out, I can run 2200 rpm if I want to, but after running for a while I can only get max 1800 rpms or so. I will check all the fuel lines to make sure there is no blockage.
