Couple of Questions!

Hi Folks. My turn to ask a favor or two:

1. Thought about replacing the 2quart element filter on my 1965 Ford 3000 diesel with the 1 quart spin on. Per what looks like official Ford parts PDF listings I just downloaded from the www, it looks like there is a kit (PN 309825F) that consists of a large diameter plate with a small threaded hole in the center, a large diameter gasket for mounting the plate, and a small, threaded on both ends, pipe fitting that apparently screws into the plate. I assume that is all there is to making the change. Seems the spin on will thread onto the pipe fitting and the filter's gasket will seal against the plate.....parts list doesn't show holes in the plate but there has to be for this to work......gotta get the oil into the filter somehow. Am I correct and any quick references to a supplier?

2. When I bought this tractor it had no hose between the oil bath air filter mounted in front of the radiator and the intake manifold of the engine. In that same PDF I found the following part numbers:

Item 9........... 311107 Short hose section joining the canister outlet to Item 11 below
Item 11.......... C5NN9B642G Tube section going from canister through bulkhead over the radiator protruding into the engine compartment
Item 12.........C5NN9B640B Hose connecting Item 11 to the intake manifold input

I have been using a length of portable vacuum cleaner flex hose but I'd like to move on with something more substantial and more inline with OEM parts.

Used, functionable OEM parts are fine if someone knows where they may be obtained. I surfed ebay and found numerous canisters and interconnects for gas engines, but no diesel.

Thanks for your time.

Hole present for inlet to filter down in recess around double ended fitting. You just need a different view to see holes.

Texasmark1- There is a secret to remove the old small, threaded on both ends, pipe fitting that apparently screws into the plate and replace the new one. Let me know if you need it.

Consider supporting this site & buy the spin-on adapter thru Yesterday's Tractors. Btw, it was an easy install on our 65 3000.

Tried to upload page 274 of the Ford 3000 parts list PDF and can't.

There are 2 sections on the page separated by a diagonal line. One is the OEM spin on arrangement where the filter is shown, two double ended, threaded, short pipes, one with holes, a nut and aspin on filter.

The other section is the OEM cartridge installation showing all the parts to that. In that it also shows the engine block where it mounts and there is a pipe reducer screwed in there that is the mounting point for the hollow bolt that holds the shell and internal parts (plus filter) onto the engine. Additionally on that view is a blocked off portion with "kit" title that has the plate, the plate to engine block seal and a (1) large and small ended threaded adapter with a hex protrusion in the center for mounting it. I assume that the adapter screws into the existing pipe reducer screwed into the block and beneath it would be the gasket and new plate.....3 new parts plus the filter?????

Can't edit so another answer to your comment. Did the kit have everything you needed except the new filter to make the change? Does it use a FL-1A Motorcraft like other Fords of the era?

Thanks.

Spent some time on the www and surprisingly enough located all parts I needed. Had to cherry pick as nobody had everything, but located all of them and yes I shopped YT first and found the 2 hoses I needed.

What really surprised me was that Alexander Tractor Parts, over in E. Texas had the pipe part which I figured I was not going to find, not a part like that on a '65 model tractor. But they had it and what's funny, they didn't have any of the connecting hoses! These guys have been rebuilding and selling OEM Ford parts for many years. One of their specialties is rebuilding 4 cylinder cracked heads....apparently that is quite common on that head...per their comments. On one of my 4000s I needed a head and bought the replacement from them. I was curious as to how they did it and they let me go to their machine shop and see how they did it. They have a process whereby they drill down the length of the crack and hammer in lead wire. Works as I never had a problem after installation.

Anyway, thanks for your inputs.
