Solar Lights

We have several solar lights that have quit working. I assume the batteries which look like AA's have lost their ability to be recharged. Would it be feasible to replace the batteries?

It is a special battery. I don't think just any AA battery will work, but we have replaced the batteries in a couple of ours and brought them back to life.

All solar lights I've seen use Ni
CD battery. Lucky to last 700 recharges. Two years. Not worth messing with. Sometimes cheaper to get new on sale.

I have fixed some just by cleaning the battery contacts.

Use AA rechargeable batteries of the highest MAH you can find.

Yes, I replace the worn out batteries all the time. Use rechargeable nickel metal hydride batteries to replace any that still have nickel cadmium batteries as the Ni MH hold more charge and last longer.

Jon, solar lights are a good way to judge which battery lasts the longest, they get recharged and discharged in a 24 hour cycle. Battery life is determined by the number or cycles. Like you I find Ni-Mh batteries last longer than Ni-Cd in cordless tools. Some people won't agree with me, but look at how long solar lights last with Ni-Cd's. geo

We had some that used the AA batteries and when the original rechargeable ones went bad I just put a regular AA battery in there. Those lasted about a year. Your better batteries Duracell or Enigizer last longer. I think the slow recharge rate of the solar cell is easy on the batteries. If it is an expensive light you might want to invest in some rechargeable batteries. The ones I played around with were very cheap so I did not care if the lights were destroyed or not. Surprisingly the lights lasted about 3 years before the contacts rusted away from rain.
