What is it with breakdowns this year? Is anyone else having one of those years? There's been one day in the last two weeks something hasn't had a complete and total meltdown. Let's see...

The fan speed adjuster motor on the combine went out on the first day of harvest.

The sprayer pump has been resealed twice (thank you atrazine) and just blew a hose today.

The slip clutch on the moco had to be adjusted and all of the springs evened. That's nice because Deere was the last one to touch it. So much for adjusting it to "specs". That usually means they won't be different lengths.

The disk needed a new disk on the end up front.

The idler pulley went out on the planting tractor and took the belt with it. It took 2 1/2 days for John Deere to get the right parts in.

The water pump went out on the 8430. That was another two days as they ordered in the wrong one only to find that the correct one was on the shelf.

One of the three foot bolts that hold the rear end together on the 8430 snapped. That got welded.

Today the fan belt on the 2000 Chevy broke.

I know I'm forgetting 14 or 15 things. I'm tired of playing mechanic. I'd like to farm at some point here!

I'm pretty particular with all of my stuff. It just seems like all of the things that wear out after 30 years picked this month to do it. It doesn't help that my patience is shot because it is125 degrees out.

Today is the first day i manage to escape from farm . I could not get away , it was falling apart faster then i could fix stuff . and now able to get to the clutch on that 2150 . While i was getting it ready to pull the engine another guy saw me there and wants to know how long i will be there as he has two down .Told him take a number and i will get to him when i get to his number .

Bob.We have that "preventative maintenance program" in place. When you farm with 30;40;50(or older) year old 'junk' $#!+ just happens!

Sounds like me today, started out great than the baler caught fire because a bearing went,my poor wife volunteered to go to pick up the parts while I took it apart. They emailed me the diagram and I specifically told them which items I needed and they still gave her the wrong parts (1hr 15min drive one way). The balers at the welding shop because the roller dug into the side of the arm it was attached to and needs built back up. Than the bale wrapper we rent started acting up so the owner came out and got it working again than a few minutes after he left the hoop drive wheel fell off. Shortly after that the front loader tractor tire went flat

You're describing three years ago. Two clutches, one engine,a three speed over/under,a PTO shaft and hub in a tractor, ten dead calves in a cold wet spring.....and the list goes on.
This year has just been a few minor things with a tractor I bought. Things that probably dried out and crusted up from it sitting on the dealer lot.
So far I've done something I've never done before. I actually have more calves on the ground than I've had cows that have calved. I've had a pair of twins and haven't lost any.

I was thinking just yesterday how glad I am that I can fix most of it myself. However, those occasional jobs that you decide have to go to the dealer can really kick the lunch money fund.

I had a GM service rep suggest that to me - after I had the steering
column replaced for the third time on a six-month-old car.
I asked him what the maintenance interval was for that part.

(quoted from post at 05:02:21 06/29/16) That program is to dump the GM car and get a Honda !
lways gotta laugh at comments like that. You couldn't give me a Honda/Toyota/Nissan vehicle. On 2 out of 3 the closest dealers is 90 miles one way. The 3rd one the shop part of that dealership has a pretty poor reputation and none of the 3 of them make a vehicle that a 6'5" 61 year old man fit's in very well. Then add in that NONE of them make a vehicle that fits my needs. So if I were to buy a vehicle that's difficult to get in and out of, is too small and doesn't fit any of my needs I may as well buy a Ferrari or a Lambo......you know something just for fun and doing it in style while having fun!

This seems to be my year for batteries.
$600+ in 12V batteries alone. It's still June.
