Early 2nd cutting alfalfa hay

I am not sure what is up but I started cutting my hay for 2nd cutting with blooms starting to show and I just had cutm it 3 weeks ago never have seen it that fast for a recut. The height is variable as is the soil types with lots of clay soil.

Must have had some good rains on it. I cut mine almost a month later than normal due to rain and now its only had about an 1/2 inch on it.

A lot of times the hay is growing hard when you first cut it if you have had a lot of good rains and it is in good health. With the right weather, it can make a second crop very quickly. But the conditions have to be about right for that to happen. The opposite can have the hay sitting there after the first cutting and not doing anything. Count your blessings. Bob

Not sure what speices you are working with, but lots of rain + heat will make hay crops grow faster.
