Not sure where to post this, but I am looking at a MF 2500 forklift , seems in good shape, has a Perkins diesel 3 or 4 cylinder can't remember right now which. Tires decent. No welds anywhere. Any issues with these or weak points? Their asking $6000 for it. I think it had around 6500 hrs on it, also no visible leaks anywhere. Thanks Dan

A MF 2500 would have to be in perfect shape to be worth anywhere near $6000. It also depends on the age. They made MF 2500 for a lot of years. Starting in the Mid 1960s up into the mid to late 1970s.

Hi
our local farm supply has one they have beat the daylights out of it for years. Brakes are dry disc on that one, and are a weak point we re did
them and they didn't last long again. The shuttle on that one is mechanical so you need to use the clutch, so with no brakes it's interesting. it's
a 3 cyl diesel in that one and I rebuilt the motor when it dumped a rod and messed the crank up. If the rear crank seal or clutch goes or the motor
ever has to come out you will wish you never saw it. All the ballast weight really has to come off to split it easily . The steering is worn on
theirs to and it don't road nice, it wanders fierce,if you don't pay attention and keep with it..

I'm not sure what parts for the mast are available from Massey or if you can match stuff up anywhere else.
A&I had some clutch stuff 4 years ago but don't know now, that one had to have a new starter ring, the flywheel re machined and the clutch disc
altered to get the clearances back, as the ceramic disk in it destroyed the flywheel with abuse.

Perkins diesel motor parts are no problem, brake parts can be got to without being massey as I think they are 135 parts still, but the rest of it
I don't know as some of that shuttle shift/reverser is not standard tractor stuff, and will agco even have it now as I don't think there is jobber
parts.
They spent $5000 on theirs at that time it wasn't worth it to me. But the customer made the choice, and for a beater forklift they couldn't replace
it cheaper, they tried.
If It's nice and not just a 5 gallon paint overhaul and it will do what you want I'd buy maybe buy it at 5000, if you can get parts still at
sensible prices and with good availability. If not your running it until it quits and dumping it. i got the same kinda deal going on with a case
580 B backhoe it's cheap as it needs motor work. but if i fix that and the trans falls out it's done, and heading to china and it wasn't cheap after
that.
Regards Robert

Robert, I did a rebuild on one with a 3A-152 Perkins that had been over ethered. Ran great, but once they blew the rings and ring lands to pieces, it would take another half a can of ether to get it running. But, like you said, it is an absolute joy removing that counterweight and getting the engine out. What a nightmare

Thanks for the info guys, they're going to call me on Mon. and see what they need to get for it. Then I can also take it for a test ride. It will need
to be almost perfect for me to move on it, I'm tired of fixing things just so I can use it.
