Farmall brake shaft seal

Does anyone happen to know the size or number of a brake shaft seal for a Farmall C? Mine has been leaking for some time and the parade season is coming! I bought some oil yesterday and had some sticker shock! When did they downsize the containers to 2 gal, I always thought it came in 2 1/2? Thanks!

I had to replace the seals on my farmall C too. I just popped them out, went to town at a place that sells bearings and came home with a pair of them. A good place should be able to measure your old seal and match them up. geo.

Try something easier, spray it with a carb cleaner to clean it, then spray brake fluid on it, it will swell the seal, it works too.

My seal was made by SKF in Elgin,IL. The Part Number is 11171. Wrap some clear packaging tape around the shaft when you slide it back in. Motion Industries or NAPA may be able to cross reference it to another brand, if no one carries SKF.

Thanks! On our tractor the seal goes in and then the brake drum slides into it, no way to use tape. The shoulder on the brake drum has a nice chamfer and if I grease it I think it will be alright.

Russ,
Here are numbers for the brake drum seal
351108R91, changes to 70201C1
SKF #21336
You can look the IH numbers up at caseihparts.com also and SKF has an interchange site online. http://www2.chicago-rawhide.com/.

The other poster may have thought you were talking about the brake pedal shaft seals.

ost mechanics recommend oil rather than grease. If that is the ype setup I am thinking of, and has a bolt that goes through a plate and screws into the end of the shaft to hold the drum on I suggest cutting a piece of gasket material or using some sealer under the plate (heavy washer) to prevent oil seeping around splines.

Ooops. The seal number I gave you is for the two seals on the shaft that the brake pedals and clutch are mounted to.
