Hello Everyone, I just registered as a new user. Hoping to get some help and also be a contributor. Last week I bought a JD 1010 RUS, It did not run when I went to look at it. The seller let me work on it so I could hear the motor. After adjusting the choke cable and correcting the firing order it fired right up. Sounded great, but had clutch issues, so I was unable to drive it. My question is about the 3 point, it went up and down and was fast on the up. When I got it home I serviced the trans, both finals and added to the hyd tank to the full mark. Now it won't do anything, any suggestions. And also I gave $1350 for it, tires look great, paint OK. Was that a deal?

Get the thing working and SELL it ! Maybe the hyd. has an air pocket ? Not sure if that has a way to kick the pump out of gear or not ?
If you would of registered and asked about a 1010 or 2010 before buying it general consensus would be to run away ! Maybe check the archives down at the John Deere forum farther down the list. JD never did have much parts support for these models and the design of things is not nears as good as other models. Aftermarket parts are near zero for them. Should be plenty of parts in salvage yards though.

The Manager of the local coop saw it and wants to buy it, might be my way out. Thanks for the info, I didn't know they were a POS.I was just looking for a small tractor to mow around the property and rake hay. Trying to give my IH 504 a break.

They get alot of bad press, but they are not all bad! I wouldn't be
afraid to buy a 1010 or 2010...but growing up dad had both. He must
have gotten good ones because we never had any trouble with either
one. He still uses them to this day as his two main tractors for doing
hay.

Thanks, I feel a little better, didn't plan on using it to hard, 6' mower and a hay rake.

i'd rather have a JD 1010 gasoline with live hyd's & live pto than some other older tractors with trans driven pto & hyd's such as an 8N specially for $1350

I personally think you got a good deal even with the issues you have. An engine for a 1010 will cost you more than what you paid for the whole tractor.

That is being dammed by faint praise.

Not really. Just consider how many 8N,2N & 9N tractors were built & sold.

I personally would not own one because of lack of live pto & hyd's not to mention the frt distributer but many folks disagree with me.

1010 gassers are known to be decent (not great but decent and quite usable). A bargain at $1350 for one that runs good I would think. Fix its issues and use it. Where else you going to get a tractor of that size with its modern features it has for a mere $1350. Heck you can not purchase a throw away riding mower for that piddly amount of money.

1010 diesels and all versions of the 2010's are the ones to run fast away from. (A Shame really as a 2010 sized tractor would be perfect for my operation but that is another story).

Hydraulic Tank????

Is there an additional oil reservoir on the tractor? The hydraulic oil goes in the rockshaft housing as that is its reservoir. There should be a fill between your legs. On the rear of the rockshaft housing there is a plug or a drain cock, fill it up until the oil comes out of there.

Is this a duel rockshaft or single rockshaft? Does it have remotes on the rear of the tractor?
