Another hydraulic leak

I have a 16 year old hydraulic cylinder on an outrigger that the factory weld has leaked in 3 different places. I'm always rebuild it too. This time I noticed nicks in the chrome rod. How they get there is still a mystery to me. Getting tired of repairing this cylinder.

I buffed out the nicks with my homemade belt sander and drill. 120g belt works better than I would have expected on the chrome. Polish it off with emery cloth.

Instead of getting out my welding cart. I found another use for the jawhorse. I was given the horse about 5 years ago and never put it to use. Who would have thunk it can hold things while you are welding.

Outriggers can get torn up on a backhoe by either digging right into them or all the rocks and dirt that collect on them. BTDT.
The bucket cyl. and hoses take a beating too because they are under ground level a lot.

Mike,

I think if your plumbing isn't leaking, wait until tomorrow. If your hydraulics doesn't have a leak, just wait until tomorrow. If your body isn't hurting, just wait until you try to go to sleep.

I see that your cylinder has that infernal square ring in the groove holding the end in the cylinder. Do you have a good way to get it out? I have had to saw the last 2 I rebuilt on my Dig-It brand backhoe apart and then weld it back before I could put the square ring back in. Is there any where to buy the square ring with out buying the $100.00 kit?
