ford 3000 holly carb flooding

New User
i have recently rebuilt my holly carb.
Set the float and all is great except:
With engine running (at idle)The brass accelerator pump venturi dumps fuel into carb.So much fuel that engine stalls
No fuel anywhere when engine is off only when engine is running.
I think that I am missing something?
Any ideas.
Thank you

Did you use an aftermarket kit?

If so, it probably has the incorrect metering plate gasket.

It's wise to bite the bullet and pay the price for a CNH kit when overhauling the Holley carb.

You will need the carburetor and engine serial number when ordering your kit to assure that you get the correct one.

Might want to re-post this on the Ford board. There are a couple of Holley aficionados there who may also have
some thoughts. As for us, our Holley went swimming with the fishes....

Yes I used an after market kit.
I did not think to compare gaskets. Will do.

Many thanx for your help.

Great suggestion.
I am new to the Forum
I have removed and installed the carb 8 times.
I am getting pretty good at it.
Your Help is very much appreciated.

Well, you actually are in Luck...the Holley is about the simplest auto carb, with very few moving parts...and Reliable...

I would suggest checking to see that the Power Valve is good and see if you have the accelerator pump installed correctly, along with any Check Balls..

Setting is the enemy of the Float Bowl Gaskets..if they Dry-out, they can shrink and must be replaced..

No Check Ball
but there is a check brass 1 inch screw in gizmo which is hollow and in the closed position?

The accelerator does use a check valve. Float may be loaded up with fuel BYDT. As far as a aftermarket kit I have not had a ise with them other than I may have to trim the gaskets to fit correctly...

They are great carbs that get a bad rap from those that put little effort in repairing them STOP try and understand it.

Bingo.

Agreed, but the Holley carburetor used on vintage Ford tractors has absolutely nothing in common with the easily serviced (but expensive to manufacture) Holley automotive carburetors that were so common on HP automotive engines in the 1960s.

I'm glad that you like them and that you have the knowledge to get them to work. I've rebuilt carbs since I was at least 10 - and I'm over 60 now - and that blasted Holley got the best of me. I read everything I could find here, re-did it & re-did it & re-did it and couldn't budge it. Punting to a Zenith was money well spent (granted, a lot of moola). But the tractor fired right up from the get-go, I adjusted the idle, and I haven't touched that Zenith since I put it on.

That Holley was more of what I was use to its more like the ones used for automotive use ...

Dean says NO but I think he needs to re-think that...
I will make you the same offer I make others I will pay the freight for your old P.O.S Holley...
