The kid is not employed yet and is broke. Something rumbles and gets hot even at idle. The AC compressor pulley has a lot of play in it. How do you get to it? The pulley is to close to the frame to pull it off while it is mounted to the engine. Do you remove the alternator and its mount bracket and then turn the compressor up to get to it? Do you jack the car up and turn it down to work on it from under the car? Do you pull the radiator to create space and then move it away from the frame? It is not my car and so I do not want to buy a manual for it. Thank you

sounds like its going to have to all come apart, and most a/c compressors take a special tool to pull the clutch and reinstall it,there a pressed on deal places like auto zone ect will rent you the special tools. downloadable manuals for most vehicles are available if you do some searching even if its just the instructions you can read and memorize, but it sounds like a major pia to do this one

You'll need to pull the compressor after you evacuate the system.
Best to get an exchange compressor rather than changing out the hub bearing.
Failure of the rest of the unit won't be far behind.

Do yourself a favor and just put a compressor on it . Are clutch /pulley kits avail ? Yes they are ., but its going to come back and bite you . Aside from the special tools needed its just not a viable repair . Been there done that .

I think if you want to be economical you can remove the compressor, install an idler for the belt and never have AC issues again.

Just changed the clutch on my 94 Dakota. Compressor was on top and easy to get at. Probably took less than a half hour to change it out. 2 snap rings held it on and a small puller to pull the bearing and belt pulley off is all that was there. Did my daughters 03 Durango a couple of years ago. Was about the same to change out. Kits come with bearing and pulley plus new coil. If air worked before I would just go for the clutch kit.

All of my GF's money was spent in order to buy this car. The bearing did not rumble for about two weeks. Now there is a repair required and she does not have the money to pay for the repair. So I get the job and it will need to be a bearing only. Her car needs axle bearings and that is going to have to wait awhile also. She could cry just talking about it and so that is why I am trying to go where I should not be going.
Thank you

How is that economical?? The required parts along with the labor to install them would amount to MORE expense than just getting a used compressor from the salvage yard.
Butcher work at its finest.

The biggest headache will be getting the compressor into position to actually work on it. Not having actually seen the car, it is hard for me to visualize what you need to do.
If you do not have the capability of draining and recharging the system, it may be wiser to remove anything that restricts your access to the affected parts.
