't good but will have to do. I am no longer a crane operator for obvious reasons, and working in my shop will be a while coming back.
can't drive yet but not near as bad as could have been. Not looking for sympathy but understanding cause fingers won't type what i am trying to say. will say and tell more as i learn to type afgain. you are the sgreatest bunch of people i have ever encountered in my life.....I will be back... Thank you... Dave

Paul Neuman made a movie about a man in a very similar situation as yours, called 'Harry and Son'. Can't remember whether it would have any helpful hints for you but might want to watch it in your spare time. Stay strong.

Good luck, Dave, I hope everything comes back.

I can't even IMAGINE what you or any other stroke victim have to deal with.

Recently, my 28 year old son had a stroke as a side effect of some other issues, the medics did a wonderful job of taking care of him, as well as the rehab folks.

His recovory has been remarkable, but then again, youth is on his side.

A friend had a stroke and recovered fully from that. Unfortunately, he refused to quit smoking and now has COPD so bad that he can't even go to the shop anymore.

Sorry to hear that. Wish you a speedy recovery and spend all the time you want here, I for one don't care if you can't type that well. Doesn't typing count as physical therapy?

Glad you're here to be with us, prayer, time, hard work, and therapy will help you regain many of your motor skills.
Recovery is slow sometimes, but know we are all here for you!

Sorry to hear that Dave.just take a day at a time and do what you are suppose to.and things will get better for you good luck
RICK

sorry to hear that, we'll will understand on here, won't we! and please dont play with this and tough it, out a stroke is serious, keep up with your dr, you may need additional treatment, and the sooner you can catch that the better for you

Take care and follow the doctors orders! My Son in law had a stroke a couple years ago and was back to full work in a short time.

Sorry to hear of your set back Dave. Hope you regain your motor functions. Tractor people are good people!

Hey Dave!
We all hoping that you are operating on all cylinders soon.
In the mean time just putter along with the rest of us.
Some us can't spell anyway, and if we can spell we can't type, so it evens out.

Hang in there, Larry

Dave. I had a stroke going on two years ago now. I was just like you. Couldn't do much.It has been a long road but I am getting better.Still have some problems. All I can say is take it one day at a time. Ask for help when you need it. Be careful with the meds they give you. Some can make you very sick. So talk to your doctor. It will all come back in time. My right arm and hand hurt all the time. Deep heat helped that. Face was numb but now just a little section. It is a pain but don't give up. If you want to talk email me.

Heck Dave, most of us on here would flunk a typing class....and our spelling would put us back in the 4th grade...take it slow and give your body time to mend...

Well at least you got something to do for sometime . Learning to type is something I have to do. Don't do like I've done fortunately I didn't do much damage I hope. But starting to feel good and weeds needed cutting loader had to be put on you will know the drill if you worked all your life sitting around isn't right . But do it take therapy take time and enjoy life and family the work can wait . Keep us updated.

I had a stroke when I was 27. I'm still kicking!

It will be frustrating because your body won't do what you want. Keep pushing yourself. Your brain will make new pathways to overcome what no longer works. I still have some funny quirks. I can't play games with dice without counting the dots each time (it's called subitizing). When I write things I can't tell the difference between G and J.

You won't be the same. Just don't worry about what's different. Think about doing the things you enjoy. The harder you work to fuss with nuts and bolts the sooner your brain will figure out how to do it.

I told my mom that I was glad it was me and not them or my brothers with kids. It's still easier to be the one with the stroke than watch someone you love and not understand what's happening. You can do it!

From someone that had a serious stroke in 2011: hang in there, do not sit idle for extended periods, stay active as possible doing something minor or simple and certainly keep your mind active. Right now the computer can be your friend but do not rely on it totally to occupy your time. I spent one week in intensive care and three weeks in rehab center before I could walk plus twelve weeks at three times a week at a center. Not normal and never will be again but I garden, mow grass with a tractor and became a master piddler.

Sorry to hear that. Hang in there & give all ya got in rehab. The brain will find another path to make things work. The more you work the faster the recovery will be. Wishing you the best.

Dave, I am a stroke survivor. My stroke put me down on the ground and I knew what had happened, that it was a stroke and I got a friend to take me to the hospital immediately. They gave me aspirins to chew and swallow, best defence against stroke or heart attack. I laid around to about three weeks with the exception of my wife driving me to the farm to feed the cattle and tend them, then I'd come home and sleep all day. Slowly my energy started coming back and I began to feel confident enough to drive. Haying came along and my SIL helped me load up four wagons with small squares. My habit was to unload the wagons the next day and have them empty to bale when he got home from work. Well after the stroke I could unload about half a load and I would have to shut the tractor and elevator off and lie down under the wagon and rest in the shade. It was two years until I felt like myself, but exercise, diet and routine all helped. I was put on cholesterol pills and a daily aspirin to thin the blood. The specialist determined my stroke was not a high blood pressure stroke ,but a particle that blocked a blood vessel in the brain TIA. Its been several years since and I have no signs of stroke whatsoever, but if I am really tires my left foot feels somewhat numb. You will recover and you will be working in your shop again. Each day will get better,do what the doctors tell you ! I was told to stay on the meds, avoid alcohol and watch the diet with weight loss as a goal. limit alcohol to no more than two drinks a day. I like beer and do have two a day as part of my daily fluid intake. You will recover and all the faculties you think are lost will return in degrees. Best of luck from a stroke survivor as well!!

I am another stroke survivor (over 10 years ago now). I was fortunate and I knew something was terribly wrong, just not what, and I am not one to run to a Dr or ER unless I am totally down. I finally went to ER 3 days later, and was in hospital for 3 days (biggest issue was inability to work). Within 3 weeks I was back at work (I work on computer doing IT support work). While most of my issue was not physical, but was speech, and short term memory related, the Dr told me to get back to doing what I could as quickly as possible, and push myself. I went from not being able to repeat a 4 word sentence (literally) to working in a matter of days with some therapy. Now, am I 100% back where I was before this? No, but close, and I refused to give in, as some would, and I am sure I could have fairly easily decided I was going to go on disability and "work" the systems. That is not an option in my mind as I have worked full time since I was 18 years old (nearly 57 now) and that was the only time I was off work for a brief time other than vacation. I hope to retire in the not so distant future, but want it on my terms and be fully capable of supporting myself both physically and financially. Hang in there as it sounds like you are already on the road to improvement.

(quoted from post at 23:25:18 06/20/16) .....................................

It sounds like you're not giving up. Here's hoping the best for you - Best of Luck! :)

Hang in there. It sounds like you have a good positive attitude. Don't worry about your typing issues. I have typing issues & haven't had a stroke. LOL. Actually typing my be good therapy for you.

Good luck , try to work on your physical activity daily . If you have any friends that can take you out for walks that helps a lot.

Hi Dave Sorry to hear about your stroke, My Moms cousin had a real bad one when I was about 10 or so. It badly affected her hand and one side of her body. She went on to live a full life just like she did before, just at a little slower pace with some adaptions as needed. I'm 42 and she just passed recently from Cancer aged about 80. She did real well for 30 odd years after the stroke.

Ok there are now somethings like work you can't do but you are here atleast, Don't worry about the typing. There are some here including me mess that up that don't have medical issues.
Good luck and hope things improve a little for you every day.
Regards Robert

Sorry to hear about your problems. I guess I have NEVER in person met anyone on here but feel like I know several over the years. At 73 years and some medical problems I have often wondered if I passed away would anyone on hear ever know it. Glad you are back and take care.

This is just a bump in the road. Keep active and things will slowly but surely improve. Take care.

Dave,

If you can open your email here, I could email you and you could reply and send me a picture to post that way.

I don't have a "plan" for texting since I don't use it very much... so I have to pay for texts.

When I tried to help you... I would have been for posting/uploading a photo on your computer - because I don't know how to post pics from my phone (but obviously, I did not make that clear).

agreed on all counts ,,. hang in there , and don't give up for hale , btw , your typing skills are better than mine
