Ever get a infected cut?

Whenever I work on anything I always seam to scrape some skin off. I don't do much I just hold a paper on it until it stops bleeding. Then go on with what I am doing, not bothering to keep the wound clean until I get home for the evening, then put a band aid on the problem. In a few days I have new skin again. Of all the times I remove some skin I have never had a bad reaction. Am I just lucky? Stan

Not since I started using antibiotic ointment on my cuts. Apply ointment to the cut and cover with Band Aid for 24 hours. Cut heals much faster and nicer without infection.

When I was repairing telephone cable, I would break the skin pretty often and keep going. Lots of times I would get a pretty deep cut from the cable sheath. If I couldn't stop the bleeding, I would put a piece of paper towel over it and pull it down with electrical tape and wear it a while until it stopped. But in all the years I worked there, I never showed an on the job accident. And never had an infection from it. Tommy

Dad used to say rub some dirt in it and get back to work:lol: It must have worked because I never do anything to minor cuts. I can't remember ever getting an infection except once when I went to the doctor for a deep cut. I now treat my own.

Depends on what you're dealing with

One of our timbers mulga (Acacia aneura for the botanical) is a wood that you better get any of it that gets into you out asap.

Wasn't for no reason at all that aboriginals used it in their spears

I had a minor cut on my thumb get infected after handling silage inoculant. When we filled silo we had a small hopper with a little star wheel that fed a dry powder in with the silage. It had some stuff in it to help the silage ferment better. The powder was purchased in 50lb bags. I got some in a small cut while refilling the hopper. Didn't think anything about it. A day later major infection. Had red strips running up my arm from my thumb. Got to the doctor quick. Antibiotics took care of it. I assume the stuff in the silage inoculant that helped the silage ferment also help bacteria grow in my cut.

When I was young, I got a scrape on my foot while water skiing. Next day I had red streaks going up my leg. I carry a bottle of peroxide in truck, have one in each shop. When I get a cut, peroxide time, let it bleed, dump peroxide many times on cut. Then I use a redneck electrician's bandage. A Kleenex and electrical tape. Never falls off, keeps the dirt away. Always watch for red streaks. geo.

I was cutting chain one day. The chain cutter was mounted on a board. On a down stroke my knuckle got scraped. I didn't think much about it. After a couple days I woke up with a red streak going up my arm. I went to the ER the doc dug around with a needle and gave me some antibiotic. The next morning I woke up to 2 red streaks on my arm, and a terrific headache. I took a utility knife and cut it open. Found a small sliver. Cleaned it up good, and then it healed.

When I was still in the welding business I dropped the welder gun and poked my thumb with the wire. You can't even see the mark in the pic, but it was right below the nail. Went in to the bone. Next day my thumb was swelled up so I went to the doc. They gave me iv antibiotics for the day then sent me home with antibiotic pills. Next day my thumb, first two fingers and half my arm to the elbo were swollen terribly. So back to the doc. Turned out I had a staph infection that got into my bones. The scar is from when the skin split on my thumb from swelling so far. They did surgery on it after to fix it some. I was in the hospital for 7 days listed as unresponsive. I was awake sometimes but had no idea what was going on. The doctors said that the answer to every question they asked was cows, they said I found that incredibly funny. Lol. They kicked me out as soon as I was awake because I didn't have insurance, but my wife had to keep giving me IV antibiotics for 3 more weeks. Anyway, they figure the problem came from the wire being hot and cauterizing the wound so it stayed open allowing contamination to get in and into my bones.

2X the triple antibiotic. It not only prevents infection, it speeds the healing. I got a deep infection in a finger as a kid. I got a blister and it broke while haying. A couple days later my finger was swollen way up. My mother took me to the doctor who cut it open and drained it.

It seems like I always bust a knuckle or something while working on anything. Usually wiped it off with a dirty rag and kept on going. I got a bad cut one day and my wife said to soak it in kerosene, that was what her family did for cuts and they never got sore or infected. So I tried it and it worked, no soreness or redness and it healed right up. I got to thinking in the past while working on cars & tractors I usually got grease in the cut while working on it and no problems, but if i bust my shin it always gets red and sore. Aren't most of the antibiotic ointments petroleum based??

Yep, Triple antibiotic works!

Had a cutting torch catch fire in my hand. The orings were leaking where the head screws on to the handle.

It caught fire and blew back on my hand, pretty much 3rd degree burn instantly on the web between the thumb and finger. As usual, I just went on with what I was doing. In a couple days it really started to get bad, infection setting in. I bought some triple antibiotic, put it on, and within a couple days it drained and was on it's way to healing. Thirty years later I can't even see the scar.

always have used hydrogen peroxide all my cuts and scrapes , and lately vetriycin , that stuff works on animals fine so well it workz on old horsaz like me too ,.when I was younger I used to heal quikly ,,. now at 59 and taking chemotherapy ,,. any scratch I get stays on me for a good week..

I started a few years back taking an aspirin a day, per my Dr. It makes my blood thinner and it seems like I really bleed with just a little scrap. I finally put a box of band aids in my shop. I, like you would cut myself and just keep working. Now I just keep bleeding on everything and would have to stop and go to the house and Doctor myself up.

Triple antibiotic ointment helps clean the wound and keep out new contaminates . Once the wound is closed you do not want the ointment to keep the skin moist . Dry skin heals twice as fast if the risk of infection is gone . Thats what the doc told me as he made the seventh stitch between my fingers . I was glad he numbed it for the first five stitches , those last two were worse that the original cut !

I get cut, scraped, and poked on regular occasion and all typically draw blood. When I first got married the wife would ask me every night how I hurt myself, and I usually didn't even know what she was talking about until she pointed it out.

I've been lucky and have yet to have anything become seriously infected. Like many it's a piece of clean rag, and some electricians tape to keep me going, and then worry about a 'proper' bandage later.

On the other hand Dad once got a small cut in the web between his index finger and thumb, while working on a machine at the landfill. They wound up having to do surgery and install a wick for it to drain after it became infected. Seems that's a really bad area for an injury as it's basically an open pocket under the skin for something to grow.

The only place I have trouble healing is my shins. If I get a scrape on shins I need to get it clean right away and get started on Clindamycin capsules and Silver Sulfadiazine cream or Altabax ointment on wound. If this doesn't work I end up in hospital on IV drip for about a week to 10 days. I have been lucky several times I have had wounds get into early stage of gangrene which they caught in time. Me being diabetic over the over counter stuff does no good on the shins but I can use over the counter on other parts of body.

This time of year I cut myself on sickle sections, planter openers, or disk blades everyday. I try to remember to put neosporin on it at night but by evening I can't remember which ones are new. I kind of look like a human mine sweeper right now. I usually don't get to the doctor unless something appears broken or the duct tape doesn't keep the cut shut.

Mom always said put axle grease on anything and it will heal faster. She also tied bacon on all of us when we had a splinter. She thought drawing salve was a waste of money. She didn't have to try to keep the dogs away all afternoon, either. I remember grandpa slipping and jamming a screwdriver all of the way through the palm of his hand and out the back. He stopped and went to the gas barrel and ran gas through it. It still makes my skin crawl to think about it. It never got infected, though.

When I was about 14 we were building a barn and my uncle ask me to hold a 2x4 while he nail it on the back side like a dumb--s I did. Well he mash my finger nail. The next day I got my pocketknife and drill a hole in the top of the nail to relieve the pressure. It got infected and had to go to Dr to slice it open to drain it.

A lady nearly died recently near Houston from a flesh eating bacteria she got from a minor wound while working in flower beds. I apply Nu-Skin right away to minor wounds and keep tetnus shot current.

Working around horses and machinery I would spend all my time at the doctors and get nothing done if I headed to the doctor every time I had lost hide or flesh. I don't think I have had a week that I didn't have blood from something. I have one that is just now after three weeks that looks almost healed from getting tangled with a gate and a stud horse trying to get at a mare in heat. Lost more than hide. A big scab on the other arm from getting pinched between a gate and the shelter siding. I keep up on my shots for lock jaw and wash the wounds well with soap and cover them for a while. I have never had one infected. We are not all equal in our make up. Some are made out of better stuff that fights off infections than others. Some people get infections from a simple sliver from no fault of their own.

I've had two bad infections - one on my wrist from a bad scrape that ground in rust, dirt and 40 year old grease while working on an old . Formed pretty bad infection pocket that I squeezed out a couple times. Had it lasted another couple days I was going to the doctor. Years back I was stabbed by a coworker (accidently) while working at a meat packing plant. He got me in the forearm with a bloody cutting knife. I don't know if it was the cow blood or the general nasty condition of the safety mesh equipment but 2 days later I had a really bad infection that swelled up my forearm and hand making it extremely difficult to grip anything. Was put on some serious antibiotics for a couple weeks by the company doctor.

(quoted from post at 06:45:41 06/16/16) Triple antibiotic ointment helps clean the wound and keep out new contaminates . Once the wound is closed you do not want the ointment to keep the skin moist . That is the other big advantage to triple antibiotic. It keeps the wound from forming a brittle scab that will keep breaking. If it stays moist it will heal much faster than dry.

Was handling mesquite brush about four months ago.
A thorn went clear through my leather glove and into my right pinky finger.
The thorn did not break off as I pulled it out. The finger tip swelled up.
I washed it with soap and water and that evening with alcohol.
For the next several weeks I poured peroxide on it after my evening shower.
Now four months later it healed, developed a callus tissue which is just now fading away.

Surprisingly enough I have not. Had some bad ones that really should have been stitched and just wrapped them tight after cleaning them up good. So far so good. I have found that the greasy cuts are the easiest to fix and the fastest to heal. Go figure.

Back in the 80's all my scraps/cuts got infected my doc put me thru a diabetic test I was not a diabetic :D Thur the years I have got immune I can't remember the last time a scrap/cut got infected...

I don't put anything on'em just keep get'er done...

When I was 9 I slipped and my foot went under a lawn mower. It took 6 hr to repair my foot I was awake and watched. It got infected sever times BAD the doc told me if I came back with it infected again he would have to take my foot off... I LOOKED after it real good from then on

The worst part I had to ware a cast from my foot to my arse  I have never figured that out yet...
