Do you need 2 12volt batteries with 1000cca to start a 830 or will less cca work ok. I read somewhere that 1000cca was needed. I would appreciate any help. Thanks!!!!!

You need a good battery with a high reserve rating. A car battery with a 1000CCA may not start your tractor as well as a tractor battery with a 850 CCA rating. Batteries have a reserve rating that is real important on diesel tractors. They need CCA to crank fast but they need to hang in there too.

Also which JD 830 are you talking about???? two banger or a utility tractor??? Two cylinder had 470 cubes to fire. The JD utility has around 151 cubic inches.

CCA is like money and HP. Some's good and more's better.

Originally, the 730 and 830 electric start diesels used 4 6V batteries rather than 2 12V batteries. Don't know what the OEM system CCA rating was but it was a bunch.

If you expect it to start reliably, I would want at least 1000 CCA.

Though the starter is 24 V, it is a big one.
