Memorial Day, thanks vets

In these days of so much anti cop and anti military going on out there, like I do each Memorial and Veterans a Day, I post this. Went to the Cemetery to place flowers and there were my father and uncles, all World War II Vets, part of "The Greatest Generation" where would we all be today if not for those patriotic minded gentleman. Now its back to such things as cooking out, listening to the Indy 500 (I enjoyed it more when Sid Collins called the race), maybe wax a car and take time to remember and thanks ALL Veterans and as a previous post noted, even Confederate as well as Union Soldiers.

What is a Veteran?

A veteran - whether active duty, retired, or national guard or reserve
is someone who, at one point in his or her life, wrote a blank check
made payable to "The United States of America", for an amount of "up to
and including my life", and there are way too many people in this
country who no longer understand that.

It is the VETERAN, not the preacher,
who has given us freedom of religion.

It is the VETERAN, not the reporter,
who has given us freedom of the press.

It is the VETERAN, not the poet,
who has given us freedom of speech.

It is the VETERAN, not the campus organizer,
who has given us freedom to assemble.

It is the VETERAN, not the lawyer,
who has given us the right to a fair trial.

It is the VETERAN, not the politician,
Who has given us the right to vote.

It is the VETERAN,
who salutes the Flag,
who serves under the Flag,

ETERNAL REST GRANT THEM O LORD,
AND LET PERPETUAL LIGHT SHINE UPON THEM.

ALL GAVE SOME, SOME GAVE ALL

Thanks Veterans and God Bless you all

Ol John T

As a vet I say thanks John T. Sad thing is most in this country don't know about the things you posted and don't care.

John , Well said!

In the paper I read today a columinist quoted a speech by Ronald Regan after the attack on the USS Stark on May 17, 1987. I looked it up on this great web. It is about 14 minutes long but if you have the time . joe

Ours is not a perfect country, but few are better. We owe all of our freedoms to Veterans, going all the way back to the battle for Independence from Britain. We are going to need some fantastic leaders to step forward to help us into the future.

Also as a Vet, thamks John T for your words. I never seen combat in my 20 year Air Force career so to those that have and those that are I say thank you for keeping us safe and free. May this Nation alway be so.

By the way we need to also remember our Police Officers who have gave their lives in the line of to duty. They are fighting the war on our streets.
I heard this morning that one million soldiers, sailors, marines and airmen have given their lives protecting our freedom. Don't know the number of police officers but they should be added to the count.

Very well said. I saw a picture on facebook of a woman with a small child lying on a blanket by a gravestone. VERY somber thought. Someone gave up not only their life but a life with their wife and child for the safety of others. It makes me angry that some in our country think they have a right to "protest" the way they do and have no regard for someone else's difference in opinion. To me protesting that way is a slap in the face to all who gave them the right to be able to peacefully protest. We are supposed to be the UNITED States.....lets keep it that way.

"few are better" you meant "none are better" didnt ya. We have aour problems but nobody is leaving and we are still so far in front of second place

I disagree. Memorial Day is when we honor our war dead. There is another day for remembering those you mention.
