Hello I have a question about a 52 8n

I took out the pto to replace the seal and gasket because of the leaks. I noticed the housing had a very large part of it missing so the price was 27 + shipping so I looked into a new one and for 97 total I can have a new everything, So my question is does anybody know if the new shaft has the stop clutch on it? The old one has the adapter so it disengages when the clutch is pressed so I don't run thru fences and such. So does the new shaft do this or do I also need an adapter to disengage the pto

Thanks!

If you are speaking about an over run coupler (ORC), the new shaft won't have that. You can take it off of your old shaft by removing the zerk fittings on the ORC and then there is a pin that hold it on the shaft. Just take something a little smaller than the hold and knock the pin out. Very easy to do. Also the "N" section of this site is a little further down the forum lists.

Nope you will need to put your ORC back on. Make sure the size you get is the right one. The new PTO shaft should be larger than the original.

One thing to add, the new shaft will be the conversion shaft and it will be a different size for your ORC to go on (unless someone has already replaced the shaft before). You will probably have to get a new ORC to fit the new shaft. Notice the pto shaft is a "conversion" type now. I don't think the old type shaft is even sold anymore.

At least this is how it went when I replaced the shaft on my 8N. Your old shaft is 1-1/8 inch PTO system and the new one will be 1-3/8 inch and even your pto hook up to implements might be different.http://www.yesterdaystractors.com/Ford-8N_PTO-Shaft-Conversion-Assembly_9N70038.html

N series does not have live pto, so you will want an Over Running Coupler. You probably can reuse the one you have. But.....

The original pto was the small diameter. Those are outdated now. You can buy the new one as small diameter, or as today's standard diameter.

I would sure want to update to the current larger pto diameter.

However your ORC might be an adaptor style going from small to large as it is.....

Lots to consider there......

Thank you all for the advice I found a shaft fully equipped and a OPC for $122.00 on ebay from a tractor place with free shipping. This is going to save hours of grief and be much easier and not that much more money. Thanks again!
