They did not have a good reputation where I am from. Hard to keep engines in them from what I recall. I suppose one might last if you do not max it out in terms of rated horsepower. There used to be a few sitting in the weeds years ago locally.
 
The 436 is the best part of the machine. The rest is just a bunch of surplus parts IH tried cobbled together into a tractor.

One sitting in the weeds here, I spent lots of hours on it in my youth. Like driving a couch across the field. Had differential troubles and all sorts of hydraulic gremlins.
 
thanks but im gonna go another way i think for the price of the tractor i looked at i can rebuild the motor in my 7040 then i know what i have
 
They were somewhat popular in my area. My great uncle had one. Seems like most guys weren't sad to see them go didn't matter if it was an IH or Case. You want a real 4x4 then get either a Steiger or Versatile.
