I was leased to Daily Express in the 70's,we used to haul new farm tractors out of the Quad Cities.I always enjoyed loading at the Farmall plant in Rock Island. After you loaded it was a long one way drive all the way completely around the plant. All the big doors would be open in nice weather, and you could watch the big red tractors coming down the assembly line.Right outside the plant was The Farmall Tap,doubt if that's still there either.

Here is one I own and sure wish I could get it back up and running. 1963 Diamond-T

Wonderful old truck pictures. What kind and size of engine would have been in the red Mercury single axle truck with the load of Olivers? We did not have to worry about being passed on the road by overpowered tractors like we do today. Love the old cab overs. Thanks for the great post.

these arn't as old, but what we ran when we were a Case dealer. The second pic is a Case corprate fleet truck. The first pic is our first tractor trailer rig. Transtar with a 220 Cummins and 10spd. The last pic is the second Transtar we had. 318 Detroit with 15spd., and in background is our Louiville L9000 tilt bed with a 6-71 detroit and 10spd.

GMC Astro coldest truck I ever drove. Seemed every rivet leaked air. Put a lot of miles on it, overall good truck

My neighbor has an engine out of a 1917 Ruggles truck, I believe it was made in Lansing MI. It us a straight 6. Coincidentally, my wife has a picture of her great grandparents standing in front of their delivery truck for the bakery they owned in 1917, with... A Ruggles truck!

Love all the pics! :D When my boys were young, we would go on a trip and I showed them how to get the truckers to hit the air horn for them. They would be waving and then pumping their fist up and down, to get 'em to honk. They would always call the big rigs, "Bonk Bonks"...

Ross , there is a Ruggles truck at our show in Vista Ca . I'll locate the pix and send them out to you .... Dale

My 1964 IH CO 4000 Transtar with 8V-71 Detroit and a 10 speed...Much to my regret I haven't started it in years...

We had a 1948 IH K6 on the farm that was a retired over-the-road tractor in it's first life. It pulled a trailer from I Falls to Minneapolis on a regular basis. It was a sweet old thing to drive, a big 6 with a 5 speed with 2 speed rear end. I learned to double clutch in it, about 1966.

She wouldn't bother me as much as the young attractive girls chasing after me after I lost 10 pounds. I started eating controlled amounts for lunch. Many TV dinners and pot pies under 400 calories. I wish I knew what they put in them to make all the girls chase after me? Just about the time things are getting exciting, I wake up. So if anyone knows what they are putting in the frozen meals, let me know. I want to take a bunch of it, then a very strong sleeping pill. Then I won't care who is ridding on my old big rig.

(quoted from post at 08:19:47 05/27/16) We had a 1948 IH K6 on the farm that was a retired over-the-road tractor in it's first life. I learned to shift a two speed (and double clutch) on grandpa's, '47 KB-7. This was in 1961. I has remained one of my favorite old truck body styles!!!!
